Many new (tier 1) systems based on the latest Intel
chipsets do not include two IDE channels.
(Ex., the Dell Dimension 91x0 / XPS 400 series with
the i945 chipset only has one IDE channel and does not
support two UDMA mode 4/5/6 devices concurrently on
the master and slave, limiting the IDE expansion to
one HD at UDMA 4/5/6 and one boot CD at UDMA-2)
It would be of great convenience if the MFSTools boot
CD were to add support for alternative HD controllers
if for nothing else than to read/write backup images
from/to. Added support for a variety of PCI IDE
controllers would definitely be a plus, as would
support for USB and Firewire drives and SATA
controllers as well.
I have found that an old Promise IDE controller I have
actually works with the boot CD, but a newer PCI IDE
controller based on a Silicon Image chipset does not.
