Media Foundation Tools

This page lists the tools and utilities provided for Microsoft Media Foundation.

MFTrace

MFTrace is a tool for generating trace logs for Media Foundation applications.
MFTrace requires the following DLLs, which are also provided in the Windows SDK.

• detoured.dll
• mfdetours.dll

The SDK provides both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of MFTrace.
MFTrace does not support WOW64; to trace a 32-bit process running on 64-bit Windows, use the 32-bit version of MFTrace.

TopoEdit

TopoEdit is a visual tool for building and testing topologies. With TopoEdit, you can perform the following tasks:

• Build a topology by adding various topology nodes like source, transform, and output nodes.
• Connect and resolve the topology structure.
• Test the functionality of the topology through playback.

TopoEdit is available in the Windows SDK, starting with the Windows SDK for Windows Server 2008.
