I downloaded MeV 4.2 to my Mac (Intel iMac running OS X 10.5.5). I doubleclick on the app icon and nothing seems to happen.
I tried 'open Mev.app' from the command line and saw this message:
LSOpenFromURLSpec() failed with error -10810 for the file /Applications/MeV_4_2/MeV.app.

I looked in the Console app and saw this :
Oct 17 12:33:25 Nightingale com.apple.launchd[199] ([0x0-0x45a45a].MeV[65021]): posix_spawnp("/Applications/MeV_4_2/MeV.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub", ...): Permission denied
Oct 17 12:33:25 Nightingale com.apple.launchd[199] ([0x0-0x45a45a].MeV[65021]): Exited with exit code: 1

Since it said "permission denied", I tried running as root and got this message:
Oct 17 12:34:41 Nightingale com.apple.launchd[199] ([0x0-0x45b45b].MeV[65030]): posix_spawnp("/Applications/MeV_4_2/MeV.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub", ...): Permission denied
Oct 17 12:34:41 Nightingale com.apple.launchd[199] ([0x0-0x45b45b].MeV[65030]): Exited with exit code: 1

I finally fixed this by doing:
sudo chmod a+x /Applications/MeV_4_2/MeV.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub
But the zip file should ship with the correct permissions already set, if this is possible.
Could you ship a DMG file instead of a zip file?
