John, Euphoria looks very interesting. Thanks for the pointer. I've known about the Avalon website for a while now. Walnut Creek CD-ROM (www.cdrom.com) sells a CD with the Avalon collection. I'm looking forward to seeing the gorilla animation. I imagine, that like the proverbial gorilla, it will sit anywhere it wants to. |) -- Marc de Groot, marc at immersive dot com, ICQ 983540 "Some people are just house plants with motor skills." ****************************************** **** Metatopia - Free VR for the net! **** **** http://metatopia.sourceforge.net **** ****************************************** |

Thanks for the prompt reply. I've written my own program to take a RWX file that has been auto-translated from a 3DS file and break it up into its component parts. I wrote it in Euphoria which is a new BASIC-like language. http://www.rapideuphoria.com I thought about writing it in Meme itself, but I don't know enough about file processing in Meme yet. Note this is brute force. I've tested it with an "Ape" 3DS file that I downloaded. http://avalon.viewpoint.com/ Now that I've got that working, hopefully I'll be able to work out a gorrilla demo within the next week. -----Original Message----- From: Marc de Groot To: John Drake Cc: met...@li... Sent: 6/1/00 12:59 AM Subject: Re: [Metatopia-design] Multi-section avatars John, Thanks for your positive comments about Meme! I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'm attaching the code for the squirrel. If memory serves, there are several parts to the squirrel, each in its own .rwx file. Meme requires that each separate moving part be stored in its own file, and the animation is all coded in Meme. I am open to suggestions for changing Meme so it accommodates other schemes for dealing with linked hierarchies of poly meshes. My concern is that whatever new scheme is adopted, it must keep Meme as generic (and portable) as possible. -Marc -- Marc de Groot, marc at immersive dot com, ICQ 983540 "Programming is neither science nor engineering. Hello. I noticed that most of the most of the examples with Meme built avatars from multiple RWX files. However the "squirell" demo seems to use a single RWX file. (I say seems because the source for the squirell demo is not available and so I'm not sure exactly how it works.) I know from reading that RWX files can handle multi-part avatars through "tags". Is there anyway to access such tags within Meme? Or do you have to break any multi-part RWX files into multiple files? Thanks. |

I have created a new mailing list called met...@li.... General discussion about work on Meme, Metatopia and the website should be directed here. E-mail met...@li... with "help" in the subject or body for subscription info. Greg, It looks good. I've been told that the black background is generally frowned upon, so let's make it white, or a light color. The word DownLoad should be Download. I'm going to want to add some links to the list on the right, but not right now.
