I agree with the general logic about separation.  I'm not sure a
"thanks!" falls into either category though.

I cannot presume to speak for any developer.

It seemed to me like your note about the message you saw from the
kernel was either surprising or indicative a bug.  I don't use DRM
though, maybe this is normal, I have no idea.  If it was a bug, it
should definitely be forwarded.
