Hi all... Slight newbie here, so please bear that in mind.
I have been having a terrible time tracking down problems relating to
my 3dfx Voodoo Banshee and my linux setup.
First problem that's been solved: I use Mandrivia LE 2006 as my
distro, and its' glide3x (along with several other distros) miss
several key symbolic links needed to get the direct rendering working
properly. I figured it out using 3dfx's own rpm, and fixed as such.
My glxinfo says I am using direct rendering, and you can see the
screen get a touch lighter when you run that program.
Second problem that's not been solved: For all practical purposes, 3d
accel. in any game doesn't seem to work. I always get Seg. Faults in
SDL, and I can't get glxquake going either. So, I am tracking down
where those errors might occur. Re-reading over the Mesa3D website,
it lists all the files that glxgears should use, and I don't see most
of those. However, glxgears works fine, I have a high frame rate
compared to indirect rendering (850fps with 3d accel on, 20fps without
3d accel on).
Here is the ldd output of glxgears:
[krisbee@... X11]$ ldd glxgears
linux-gate.so.1 => (0xffffe000)
libGL.so.1 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1 (0xb7ec6000)
libXp.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXp.so.6 (0xb7ebe000)
libXext.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6 (0xb7eb0000)
libX11.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 (0xb7de4000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0 (0xb7dd2000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0xb7dad000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0xb7c7e000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0xb7c7a000)
The beginning and end files that don't have any pointers, is that
normal? Is there something else I should try? I am at my wits end
here. I must get this card working, as a quest!
