Hi,

The "relax" needs to have a starting value for max opacity
which it will then incrementally change to the new max value.
Take a look at the inlists in test_suite/limit_max_opacity.
Here are the relevant lines from inlist_2 in that directory.

in &star_job
      relax_opacity_max = .true.
      new_opacity_max = 0.3
      opacity_max_multiplier = 0.99

and in &controls
      opacity_max = 2 ! use this as starting value for relaxing to smaller max opacity
