Here's my experience. For me, the ./tester in the mtx module hangs using the following gfortran on an Intel P4 box, jschwab: mesa$ gfortran -v Using built-in specs. Target: i686-pc-linux-gnu Configured with: ../gcc/configure --enable-languages=c,c++,fortran Thread model: posix gcc version 4.4.0 20080510 (experimental) (GCC) ifort works fine on that machine On my G4 PowerBook, gfortran 4.3 has built MESA successfully.
