Welcome to my new developed application (August - 2011).
Merso is a sailing application that uses a server and a mobile phone to help sailing entire courses, not just from mark to mark.
The server (www.merso.eu) is a repository for the clubs/marks/courses, once the end-user ads the information to the website, it can be used on the phone.
The phone uses the information to get a full course and sail the race. The system displays Course Over Ground (COG), Bearing, Velocity Made Good (VMG), Speed over Ground (SOG), Distance To Mark (DTTM) and Time to Mark (TTM). Once the boat is near the mark, the system will auto-switch to the next mark.
The course is display using colours for the directions when approaching the mark, Red for Port and Green for Starboard, it also displays Bearing a distance between the marks.
There is an aerial map that will place the course's marks for an aerial view of the course.
Lastly, there is a built-in time for up-to 20 minutes, the last 60 seconds are display over the navigation screen, the timer speaks the last 45, 30, 15 and each of the last 10 seconds.
The program and website were built as part of my final year school project and I know I am not a programmer nor I want to be one, so I am releasing the code with the hope that better programmers will help the project along.
The application itself can be obtained from the Android Market under "merso"; the code for the website and application will be published here.
