on the www.linuxdevel.com website a press release tells about their cooperation with globalretailtech and it used to be possible to download mercator, ver 0.3.3. Now it's gone and they are selling a closed source software called OpenCheckout that is "based on open source components" is open source development on mercator going to continue? Will 0.3.3 be available again for download (or is it still and I just can't find it?). Nice software anyway and I sure hope it stays open! Thanks!

Hi
The url for downloading mercator 0.3.3 is http://www.linuxdevel.com/linuxdevel/developers/downloads.php
There isn't a link on the website but a google search revealed it.
I hope mercator remains open and is further developed. I work for a point of sale company and we are looking at Mercator and are starting to develop a java POS. Also it could be very useful to link the Mercator POS to the OfBIZ project (also hosted on sourceforge).

For all concerned.. linuxdevel.com is not related with this source forge project. They maintain a version of Mercator that was taken from the 0.2.3 version (or there abouts). They use it for their own purposes but they are <u>compelled</u> by the GPL to make their changes public.
PS: A new release of Mercator is in the works with a new database layer that will initially support Interbase and PostgresSql with MySql soon to follow. It will be version 0.4, after a little pounding and patching it will jump to 1.0.

Anybody who's interested in this thread should have a look at my recent post entitled "About Linux Developers Group and Mercator". I hope it clears up any misunderstandings about the LDG version of Mercator.
Thanks,

Hello:
I just found out about your product Mercator. Sounds real good. Is it still available? Is anyone working on it? Windows install instructions, maybe?
Thanks,
Elias

It is very active, but has moved to the FreeMercator project.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/freemercator/
There is also a version that is not realy open/free, but maintained by this projects original developer.
