Cache links

The data on the web is ephemeral, a link that I relate to
a meme today may not exist next week or even
tomorrow. Worse yet it may point to something entirely
different and unrelated.
Add the capability to cache the page for a related link.
That way if the real link goes away or is changed
beyond recognition then the link could be related and
the cached version of the page would be come the
related link.
This is something that is already being done on Google
and some of the Wikis.
A new CMS called TikiWiki (Sourceforge project) does
this as well.

It's a good point.
When I create memes I tend to point to them at top-level
pages that should be relatively static, but link-rot is a fact of
life and deserves some thought.
The solution I was thinking of was to have a spider service
that periodically checked the memes links and reported if
they'd changed. This fits with my philosophy that Memento
should be a collection of web services.
Anyway, thanks for your suggestion, I shall ponder it.
