I wanna suggest you to keep an eye on FreeBand SVN 'cause you can grab (and hopefully share) knowledge to boost both projects;

bobbocanfly (http://sourceforge.net/users/bobbocanfly/) ported simplestats from perl to pure PHP, check out the SVN: http://freeband.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/freeband/
