Examples of MEI are firstly available on the MEI website. These samples include partially the MEI 2013 schema and such samples could be displayed by MEISE. The collection includes samples of various genres and epochs as well as examples for illustrating particular encoding-phenomena in MEI. There is though a small collection in the repository, which is especially useful for the MEISE-tool. The directories contain special templates for various requirements related to the cast.
The templates are snippets with basic information within the MEI-code and may be used to enhance the code or to create a complete musical score with MEISE. The following example illustrates the template for a Piano Score (without musical content).
Please load Piano_Score.xml.
Beside this, you will find some templates which may be used for further working within MEISE, e.g. creating a score with MEISE, as well as some examples including multiple readings for illustrating the usefulness of MEISE, which is able to display several sources within one MEI-file. All features of MEISE could be used in the same way as described in the chapters before.
The following image shows a musical score including several sources. The Outline View on the right side illustrates the MEI structure and the selected source (Source B in this case). The Editor View shows Source B in red notes. The appropriate encoding is displayed below.
Please load MEI_Example_with_different_sources.xml
The following example illustrates a complete MEI-file. The document includes a detailed MEI-Header with distinct bibliographic metadata. Such information are not displayed in MEISE's Score View, however, only the XML-View illustrates them. The example shows the encoding of Johannes Brahms' song Wie Melodien zieht es mir, including some faults in the encoding. While proofreading the file with MEISE, the missing measures indicate mistakes in the encoding. There is no second staff encoded in measures 3 and 4.
