Ability to perform operations for maintenance of data without entering graphics mode.

Examples of such operations are
--convert-models
and the validation and duplicate handling functions.

Without this feature, such operations prevent the use of the computer by the user for other interactive activities.

If using a stub for graphics mode is required for operation, perhaps libosmesa can be used.
