I have mediatomb running on a ubuntu machine. I have another pc with vlc (using the streaming provision in it to replicate an onlie stream) which streams out rtp stream onto a multicast address which the mediatomb is proxying before streaming that content to a upnp renderer. When I stream out a .avi file using rtp protocol in vlc mediatomb transcodes that rtp stream into mpeg format and then renderer is able to play that, though with some time lag and video quality compromised. The renderer i have supports .mp4, so is there a provision in mediatomb for buffering the mp4 rtp stream from vlc before streaming it out to renderer using http-get without any transcoding to be done as the renderer supports the format.
I also tried changing the fetch-buffer settings in config.xml as suggested in the mediatomb documentation for online content settings.
I guess this particular setting just makes mediatomb act as a pass through for the online content, a mechanism for handling URL's for the players which cant handle online contents.
The renderer am using shows up an error msg saying plugins for handling rtp stream not installed.
Thanks in advance.
