When use Mediatomb-0.8.1, I think I find a big problem.
I select a DVD Media file with .vob format(size:588M) to play in Mediatomb. Mediatomb firstly transfers all the DVD file data to Client, then until after transfered the DVD file data, it begins to play the DVD file in Client. When transfering DVD file data, it takes about 13-15M/sec bandwith. I think it takes too much. And because the DVD file is big, so it takes too much time to wait the DVD file to be played. And also it stores a copy of DVD file in Client, it takes too much disk space of Client.
In my opinion, when playing a media file, it will only take a little disk space or memory to buffer a period media data and then play the buffered media data immediately, but not buffer a whole media file and then to play. And when transfering the buffer data, it shuldn't take so much bandwith I think.
That's just my opinion, and hope will get a good solution or introduction to this problem.

this is not a problem of the server, it's the problem of the client that you are using.
The server is just offering the data, the client decides whether it will download the whole file or stream the media directly, we have no influence on that.
