I don't have a single evening open this week. I can move some stuff around and might be able to meet for a bit on Friday if you are meeting then. Sorry! Thanks for stepping up, Rich. Sorry for having been slacking on all that for the past month or so. I'm slightly drowning. -Orion On 5/19/08 10:11 pm, "Scott Shawcroft" <sco...@co...> wrote: > We TAs can't do until 6:30. > ~Scott > > Rich Snider wrote: >> Hello all!, >> >> I was wondering if we could have a meeting this week? I saw your stuff in the quad! Very nice!!! I'm really excited and I think your idea to open up the site is a good one! The only thing I have to comment: Is the "contact us" page working yet? If not, it should really just be replaced by two mail-to links to the banda-project emails. We shouldn't really publicize it but not have a way for them to contact us. Once again, very nice! Hopefully I'll be there next time we do it! :) -Orion -- Orion Buske Undergraduate Student Department of Bioengineering Department of Computer Science and Engineering University of Washington Email: stasis@u.washington.edu |

woot woot! sounds great! i personally like orion's "banda" better... just a personal taste thing... but i can go with either. i will get everyone set up as bloggers as you request, evan, d i have the admin privelages to do that? also, i am developing a features list, faq, and some other content for the site which i am hoping to have up on the site by friday. as to that, evan, can you get the text out of the container and into the body for me please, or tell me how i can do that... thantks! i have also talk to JJ recently and gotten him started on some mockups. ive given him all the stuff i graphically have and am having him make some screenshots for us. as he gets through them he should be mailing them to the devel mailing list. orion/scott, if there is any specific layout you want in an artist/album page please let jj/myself know so he can design the image as per that. if you can get some final designs he can make em into screen shots, he has a ton of experience in that sorta thing. also, as per the survey, ive just been waiting to start that! i personally want a ready to go website to send people to, and we are almost there. i think we need to set a benchmark and say... when we have this much set up on the webpage... then we open it. that way we can also plan on when to start surveys. if i have time in between the other banda parts im doing i will work on survey questions as well (i definately have enough free time... i just need to manage it well). im excited we have things to do!!! yay! evan and i have come to an agreement where he is gonna mainatin the styling of the website and i am gonna oversee the content. so if someone has questions about those respective parts you know who to talk to... that includes adding content... what time are we meeting friday??? Hey Evan, one thing I'd suggest for the header on the site: Make sure you start the image far enough right. In your screenshot it feels like the logo's being pushed off the top-right of the page. I'd suggest indenting it AT LEAST to the same level as the text. I agree that the font may not be the best on the website. Maybe we can find a use for it somewhere else. Here is the hot new vector-graphic panda! At least most of my time was worthwhile! :) I'll only be able to be at the meeting on Friday for about 30 min. Just to let you all know. Any specific ui mockups/designs that are needed? Website -> client could be done -Orion -- Orion Buske Undergraduate Student Department of Bioengineering Department of Computer Science and Engineering University of Washington Email: stasis@u.washington.edu On 5/7/08 12:18 am, "Evan Meagher" <eva...@gm...> wrote: > IE6/7 doesn't support alpha png transparency, so the gray container div will > be solid for IE users. IE6/7 doesn't support alpha png transparency, so the gray container div will be solid for IE users. I knew this going in, so it's taken care of. I need to fix the footer height for IE6, which I'll get to tonight after I finish some stuff up. I'll clean up the header stuff I did last night and get one up on the site, too. Surveys sound great. I haven't done them before and I'd definitely like to learn. We could either have them in a blog post or a page of their own. Either would work, I think. I'll be in Olympia this weekend, so if there are meetings after Friday at 2pm, I won't be able to attend. Nice work, guys! Hey all, You rock! I've been lurking on whats going on. I'm really excited about banda. I'll get on top of things fully in the next few days before I go to San Fran. Here are some thoughts: * Could the header be shorter? It'll make a lot of people scroll down as it is. I could see making the headphones smaller. This might help the banda logo fit in better. * Orion I appreciate your work on the banda written out in inkscape but I like the stuff Evan did better. It seems cleaner to me. What do you think about a custom theme to bring the website look to the client too. * Eric pointed out ie7 does not respect the transparency of the black bar. I was messing with the logo but don't know how to change the size constants so I was having some trouble getting the text-image to work right. I need to sit down with you guys and go over some options and have you show me how to edit the wordpress stuffs. On 5/4/08 9:01 pm, "Evan Meagher" <eva...@gm...> wrote: > Fixed the blog. Fixed the blog. I changed some of the code in the main index template file and added clear:left to div.post. What happened to the logo? And Rich, eventuall we can turn the WYSIWYG editor back on, but for now be sure to not add extra div's or p's to your posts. Allright!!! The webpage is up! yay!!! in adding content i have noticed two interesting bugs... and I dont know how to handle them. The first is on the blog page, the ending of one post is on the same line as the start of the next post. second, our search is way too powerful (try searching "in" or "we" as the search material). i suggest we implement two searches... a page search and a blog post search, and they should be independent of each other. other than that... i fixed all of the stubs (they go to pages now... which just say things like under construction), and i added the content i have. when do we want to meet next to discuss the next step? (im hoping surveys!!!) -Rich |

Just e-mail me with what happens and what you want me to do... the more specifics the better. The main thing we need now for the website is marketing copy. If you guys have free time, it'd be helpful if you could brainstorm taglines, slogans, catchphrases, etc. I'm thinking for now we can have a feature list and a blurb/statement on the idealism behind the project (supporting artists, embracing new media/digital distribution, etc), as well as any other content we can think of. As Rich and I talked about today, there aren't a lot of specifics we can get into about the product, since we don't have a functional application yet. Check out this website: http://playintraffik.com/ This is roughly what I'm going for, in terms of being a nice looking product page. I aim to have our site look better and be a bit more usable. The main thing I'd like you guys to glean from it is its page structure and the style of the writing. Here are a few good articles on copywriting: http://blog.fluidesign.com/2008/04/11/copy-is-everything/ http://www.contract-worker.com/effective-online-persuasion-do-it-quickly/ http://www.copyblogger.com/60-second-copywriting/ Sorry if I sound like I'm lecturing you guys. It's just writing good, effective marketing content is harder than you'd think. If we're going to convince people that Banda's worth using, we have to write persuasively. Conciseness is key. Short, punchy taglines and paragraph headers are a must. In other news, Scott showed off what he and Jason have done in QT so far at today's meeting. It looks great, in my opinion. Exactly what we came up with and what I've been envisioning. Contrary to your doubts, Orion, Banda seems to be coming along nicely. :P Scott talked about having a "hack day" probably next weekend where we all get together (either in a lab, library, or Scott/Jason's house) and work on stuff in the same room. Michael would hopefully set up bandaproject.org with a SQL database for Wordpress and I could migrate the site to the new domain. Should be fun. Stay tuned for details. That's about it from the meeting. We showed Rich what lolcats are and looked at pretty last.fm graphs. Have a good week(end)! -- Evan Meagher | http://evanmeagher.net/ | aim:mongoose1337 |
