I have an Access 2000 format database with a table that contains a TimeDate field. The dates are all between "2004/05/04 09:34:28" and "2004/05/24 21:04:29". However, mdb-export loses this date information, and every field comes out with either "01/01/70 00:00:00" or "12/13/01 20:45:52". Any ideas? (This is with 0.5.99-2 from debian unstable.) Tony |

Hi Jeff, I can't see updating the lib version for every small change like this one. I think the rule of thumb should be releases only. Anyone rolling their own from CVS, they must expect to copy over the previous CVS version. Since I just upped the version after the 0.6pre1 release, we are good until the next release is put out. So, first API change after a release gets the version bump, and I've already done it this time around. If this were the first api change made during the release, then we would be incrementing the version to something like 1.1.0, since this is not an incompatible change (just an added function), instead of 2.0.0. Brian, I would like to add a function to the API, but wondered if I am supposed to do something to the library versioning when I do this. I have never made such additions to an API before, so I must confess that version control is still something of a mystery to me. BTW, what I had in mind is a mdb_read_table_by_name function. I already have it implemented and tested in my local tree, but did not want to commit it without checking for potential versioning issues. -- Jeff Smith __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hi, There is no DBI compliant perl module that I am aware of. Frankly, I think it's easier just to compile ODBC with DBD::ODBC than to write a whole perl module, but I certainly wouldn't complain if someone wanted to write one. If you submit the resulting module to the project, we can even ensure that it tracks any API changes in libmdb (currently a big problem). Good spot. Yes this is supposed to detect a negative money value (high order bit is set, little endian mode). I'll check in the fix tonight. in the file money.c there is a function called: mdb_money_to_string in this function there is this line: if (money[7] && 0x01) { (I just checked cvs head and this line still exists) What is the point here? It looks like the code says if (money[7] is not zero and 0x01 is not zero) 0x01 would never be zero so what's the point? unless of course the line should read: if (money[7] & 0x01) { in which case it means if (money[7] or'd with 0x01 is not zero Comments? Has anyone here developed a Perl module to interface to the LibMDB and LibMDBSQL libraries? I want to be able to query databases from a Perl-based ASP script and it seems overkill for me to set up and use ODBC rather than simply using these directly. Hi all, When running just a plain ./configure, it appears the ODBC stuff doesn't build by default. (I'm not sure whether it's intended to or not, but I think it probably should) Also, a minor build issue: The command: % ./configure --with-unixodbc is accepted, but you get a compiler error later on: /bin/sh ../../libtool --mode=link gcc -O3 -DNDEBUG -DSQL -DUNIXODBC -o libmdbodbc.la -rpath /usr/local/lib odbc.lo ..... -lglib-2.0 -Lyes/lib -lodbcinst ../../libtool: line 1: cd: yes/lib: No such file or directory libtool: link: cannot determine absolute directory name of `yes/lib' gmake[2]: *** [libmdbodbc.la] Error 1 I suspect the autoconf stuff stuck the offending 'yes' in, instead of the path. The command: % ./configure --with-unixodbc=/usr works correctly, allowing the ODBC library to be built. Details: - Mandrake 9.2 (with upgrades) - autoconf2.5-2.59-3mdk - autoconf-2.13-19mdk (Not sure if this is used...) - libtool-1.4.3-7mdk - make-3.80-5mdk Let me know if you have any questions. Ian |

My problem was a mixture of stable and testing Debian distributions (mdbtools was not available in the stable distribution). A hint for the unwary - never mix them up. It's all stuffed up now!! -----Original Message----- From: br...@br... [mailto:br...@br...] Sent: Sunday, 20 June 2004 11:09 PM To: Robyn Goldsmith Cc: mdb...@li... Subject: Re: [mdb-dev] Release 0.6pre1 The important piece from our perspective is what pkg-config calls libglade2. This should be standardized otherwise the whole pkg-config scheme is pointless. What does "pkg-config --list-all" show for the name of libglade? Another problem with readline may be that you have the library, but not the corresponding header files. Can you do a "locate readline.h" and let me know if you have it or not? In the rpm world that would be equivalent to not installing the readline-devel-*.rpm package. I've just implemented library versioning for libmdb and libmdbsql. Both libraries will now build as libmdb*.so.1.0.0 I think a few policy decisions are in order. I'm only going to update library versioning for major versions of the tools. Going from 0.5 with incompatible ABI changes to 0.6, the version gets incremented. Going from 0.6pre1 to 0.6pre2 with ABI breakage, no increment in version. (With the exception of this one time change). In general I intend to update the version at first breakage during the development cycle, and retain that version until major release, rinse, lather, repeat. Since libmdbodbc should be ABI compatible due to the externally defined interface (ODBC) I've chosen not to change version numbers there. If anyone has questions or concerns with this policy, speak now! Brian |

I'm a bit confused about where this is coming from. I made a change that removed all the old cruft from acinclude.m4 for old broken autoconf's (reported on BSD originally I think). Anyway, can you 1) do an "ls -l acinclude.m4" 2) do an "ls -l libtool ltmain.sh aclocal.m4" after running autogen.sh 3) "./libtool --version" from the tree root after running autogen.sh 4) "rm -f aclocal.m4 ltmain.sh libtool; ./autogen.sh" and see if anything changes. I just checked in some changes which looks to be pretty comprehensive for all readline implementations in existance. Thank you, autoconf macro archive! Please try it if you have access to CVS. Regarding libglade. As mentioned we only care what pkg-config calls it, and that appears to be correct. Can you post some details about the problem you're seeing (snippit of config.log and such)? The important piece from our perspective is what pkg-config calls libglade2. Thanks for the info. Libreadline seems to have been replaced by base-files in Debian. Upgraded this package but it did not help as I got the same errors. Also cannot find libglade-2.0 so throwing numerous errors. Problem may be it is called libglade2-0 in Debian. There is no such package as libglade-2.0. -----Original Message----- From: mdb...@li... Ran across this before on a machine that had no readline library installed. I had totally forgotten that it needed fixed. Either install libreadline or add these dummy functions in mdb_sql.c right after the add_history dummy function: void read_history (char *s) {} void write_history (char *s) {} Maybe I'll get a chance to do something about these this weekend. -- Jeff Smith --- Robyn Goldsmith <ro...@oz...> wrote: > Errors during make ../src/util/mdb.sql.c:364: undefined reference to > read-history and also c:438 undefined reference to write_history. > > Hope this helps __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
