Guys, I created an RPM file for mdbtools 0.6 for Red Hat Enterprise 4. I did this because I couldn't find a rpm for this distribution. Anyway, I'm trying to upload it to rpmfind.net, but it says that it doesn't accept submissions and to instead "upload to one of the ftp sites that I mirror". However, it neglects to tell me which ftp sites it mirrors. Can anyone tell me where I can upload this thing? Reason I am doing this is that I had a hard time getting it to compile in Red Hat enterprise and i want to spare other people of my agony. - Steve |

There is a "static GHashTable *mdb_backends" declared in src/libmdb/backend.c but there is also a "extern GHashTable *mdb_backends" in include/mdbtools.h . This caused compile to fail on Mac OS X 10.4.7 with "gcc version 4.0.1 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 5363)" I commented out the extern declaration in mdbtools.h and it compiled fine. |

I'd almost wonder if it isn't a mdb issue but an iconv issue. Have you recompiled mdb with debugging and no stripping enabled? also installing debugging libraries (-dbg packages where available) and it should give some more information as well :) Sam On 18/09/06, Niels Tolstrup <nt...@ex...> wrote: > > > > Dear Sirs, > > I would like to use mdb-sql to query an MS Access database, but I get an > Segmentation fault. > > I am using a 64 bit AMD Opteron with debian sarge and > mdbtools_0.5.99.0.6pre1.0.20050409-1_amd64 > > I seems that my problem is related to running on the Opteron, because I am > running the exact same version of mdbtools on the same debian distribution > on a 32 bit Intel processor without any problems. > > The command looks like this: > nt@betelgeuse:~$ echo 'select "EQ No",Sequence,"Oligo Name" from "Oligo > Synthesis"' > my_query > nt@betelgeuse:~$ mdb-sql oligo.mdb < my_query > > Segmentation fault > > For debugging I tried: > > nt@betelgeuse:~$ gdb mdb-sql > GNU gdb 6.3-debian > Copyright 2004 Free Software Foundation, Inc. > GDB is free software, covered by the GNU General Public License, and you > are > welcome to change it and/or distribute copies of it under certain > conditions. > Type "show copying" to see the conditions. > There is absolutely no warranty for GDB. Dear Sirs, I would like to use mdb-sql to query an MS Access database, but I get an = Segmentation fault. I am using a 64 bit AMD Opteron with debian sarge and = mdbtools_0.5.99.0.6pre1.0.20050409-1_amd64 I seems that my problem is related to running on the Opteron, because I = am running the exact same version of mdbtools on the same debian = distribution on a 32 bit Intel processor without any problems. The command looks like this: nt@betelgeuse:~$ echo 'select "EQ No",Sequence,"Oligo Name" from "Oligo = Synthesis"' > my_query nt@betelgeuse:~$ mdb-sql oligo.mdb < my_query Segmentation fault For debugging I tried: nt@betelgeuse:~$ gdb mdb-sql GNU gdb 6.3-debian Copyright 2004 Free Software Foundation, Inc. Dear Thorpe, I had the same problem. The problem wasn't really mdbtools, although the tools perhaps could handle it better, but a defective database. Before using it, try to find something like "Compress and Repair database" in the menu (I think it's called that way but I use a Dutch version of Access). It's probarly one broken record in a table, well that was it in my case. Microsoft Access doesn't make a problem of it, and ignores that one record, but mdbtools does not. Hello Thorpe, I'm not active on this list, but in any case a backtrace is required to debug your problem. Use this command: gdb mdb-export At the prompt of gdb, type run ok06vf01.mdb ok06vf01 After the segfault, type backtrace and send the result here. Good luck, Michael On Monday 11 September 2006 18:34, Thorpe Mayes wrote: > I ran this from the commmand line: > > # mdb-export ok06vf01.mdb ok06vf01 > > and got this: ... > Segmentation fault ... > mdb tools is installed on a linux (RedHat 9.0) box .... |

If you're on Windows, the most robust way to do it is probably just to use the export features in Access. If you don't have it, I think you can probably get away with downloading OpenOffice. As I understand it, it uses the native database libraries when installed on Windows. Presumably that will have export functionality. > This is very urgent. Hi guys, I am the new member of this list. Could anyone please tell me where do I find the mdb to cvs converter for Windows platform. This is very urgent. I tried to search it on the net but it just suggests tools for the unix & linux platform. They do specify that it can be installed on windows but then do not mention the procedures. Here are the links which might clear the issue: http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gtk/gtk-windows.html Please respond as soon as possible, With regards & thx, Ashwin. |

I will repeat some simple advice and suggest that you try the CVS releases. I'm a Debian/Mac person so I can't particularly help (and recently I had to replace my Mac's hard drive) on the Red Hat front. Has anyone gotten mdbtools to compile under Red Hat Enterprise 4? Both .5 and .6pre1 refuses to compile and I'm pulling my hair to see what's wrong. Just wondering if this is even feasible? - Steve |

I have had some fun exporting a M$ Access database to PostgreSQL, and found the enclose changes helpful. This is my first posting, so really, this is just a "do you think this is useful / how would you like patches best submitted" note. autogen.sh, configure.in are just because I use cvs-autotools libmdb.pc.in, libmdbsql.pc.in are just because I use an OS which uses -rpath doc/mdb-export.text is just fixing a typo mdbtools.h fixed a compile problem backend.c: - data types mapping - we might as well use SQL datatypes and let the particular database do its own aliasing - it may mean that those tables become redundant? - allow foreign key constraints to be output for postgesql too, just adding a few " mdb-export.c: - make boolean a text type because in postgresql: postgres=# create table test ( a boolean); CREATE TABLE postgres=# insert into test values ( 0 ); ERROR: column "a" is of type boolean but expression is of type integer HINT: You will need to rewrite or cast the expression. postgres=# insert into test values ( '0' ); INSERT 0 1 postgres=# select * from test; a --- f (1 row) so 0 (false in access) wants to be quoted, so that string -> boolean conversion occurs. and the rest is all about quoting. In PostgreSQL, to preserve case and spaces with table/column names, we need double quotes. create table "Some Table" -> Some Table create table Some Table -> error create table "SomeTable" -> SomeTable create table SomeTable -> sometable so I pop double quotes everywhere. Another niggle is that if an escape character is defined, ' is then quoted as escape char ' rather than '' . The patches need discussing - I didn't go out of my way not to break other backends, and it seems some of the above would be better off in an extension to *mdb_backends. Thoughts? Cheers, Patrick |

Hi, Can I use MDB utilities to export data from MS Access to IBM DB2? I tried to use Export functionality provided by Access to export using ODBC but observed that it has lot of limitations like primary key was getting exported and then relationships between various tables etc. I also want to export queries/forms/reports out of Microsft Access; Appreciate any help. In my opinion, mdbtools is not the tool to use for this. mdb-sql might be able to do it (I haven't ever used mdb-sql) but the write support of mdbtools is much younger than the read support. Rather do something like this: Use MS Access as a front-end to MySQL by linking tables. or: Dump the schema and data from MySQL using the mysqldump command, edit the dump file to fix the "CREATE TABLE" commands etc., so that Access will accept them. Then execute the SQL statements in Access. or: Figure out how to get the data exported from each table in CSV format, create all the necessary tables within Access and then import each table's data. P.S. I am no expert in either MySQL or MS Access... -- Michael Wood <mw...@ic...> |

You can use Access to connect to a mysql database. Have a look at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/is/mysql/access/ Hope this helps Regards, Gary mdb...@li... wrote: Send mdbtools-dev mailing list submissions to mdb...@li... If you're using Windows, you could actually just install the MySQL ODBC driver and import the table via ODBC with the built in Access import function. I don't know what you're intent is here, but be warned that if the table is over 10,000 records you could have a very bad experience after you import to an Access table. As for the actual import process: I've done it with very large DB2 tables and some smaller MySQL table and it is a fairly painless process. Thanks, Dave Michele Monaco wrote: > I have a MySql database, I need to convert in an Access format. > > May MdbTools help me? > > Many thanks, > Michele > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Take Surveys.
