This post is just to say hello to the people subscribed to this list.


I have also been thinking about a mpeg multichannel solution, but in a 
different way.

I though about a bitstream multiplexer, in the same way Vorbis is 
currently able to create multichannel content. The advantages of a 
bitstream multiplexer are mainly around simplicity.
This would allow to quickly (in term of coding) generate some 
multichannel content for both layer II and Layer III. I hope that this 
would generate some interest and that we would soon see some 
multichannel decoders appearing.

But the drawback is abviously that this would be less efficient than a 
direct multichannel encoder, as the multiplex solution would only be 
able to handle interchannel redundancy by pair of channels (because it 
would be using regular stereo encoders).
