By "our packagers", you mean "Kelledin". ;)
There is now a usable package set in the=20
ftp://skarpsey.dyndns.org/packages/versions/0.1/ directory. =20
Everything in that directory should be included on the IOS CD. =20
Currently it all fits in 550MB and includes (almost) all the=20
latest packages I have.
The following are known issues with the package set:
1) We have no precompiled kernel yet. In light of this, we will
simply have to give the user a config phase for the kernel=20
source (currently 0.1pre/SOURCES/linux-2.4.18-1.tar.gz). I=20
was planning to have this as an option; for now it is a=20
necessity. This issue will go away once we decide exactly how=20
to manage a precompiled modular kernel and "driver packs."
2) Because of (1), there are other packages we don't have=20
precompiled yet (but we *do* have them as source RPMs in the
directory 0.1pre/SRPMS/). The idea with these is that once
a custom kernel is compiled, these source RPMs will be used to=20
build and install RPMs customized for the custom kernel. The=20
packages can be built via the command "rpm --rebuild --target=20
i486 <package-name>" _after_ the system is booted from the=20
custom kernel. This issue will also go away once we resolve
issue (1).
3) There are two precompiled packages that depend on lm_sensors=20
libraries (kde3-base and mondo). Because lm_sensors is=20
provided as a source RPM only, these packages will have to be=20
installed with the "--nodeps" option. This, too, will go away
once we resolve issues (1) and (2).
4) BitchX has some problems with backgrounds in dialog boxes. =20
Fixing that is my department and is on my to-do list.
5) KDE needs to be updated to version 3.0.3. Once again, my
department, and on my to-do list.
6) All of Gnome 2.0.1 needs to be installed. Once again, my
department, and on my to-do list.
7) Since we can't install both sendmail and postfix, I just left
sendmail (the slower, but more accepted MTA) in there and
left out postfix. We'll figure out how to deal with this sort
of conflict later.
