I finally managed to get the alpha port complete. Almost all the=20 software I had built on my x86 box is now also built on the=20 Alpha box, and most of it seems to work just the same. The two=20 notable exceptions to this are mozilla 1.0.1 and php 4.3.0--I'm=20 still investigating them, but fortunately they're not real=20 show-stoppers. Tomorrow night, the packages on ftp://skarpsey.dyndns.org will be=20 swept away and burned to CD, and fresh packages will=20 arrive--that is, if nobody objects before then. --=20 Kelledin "If a server crashes in a server farm and no one pings it, does=20 it still cost four figures to fix?" |

I wish I hadn't got rid of my Alpha Multia now ;-) > Tomorrow night, the packages on ftp://skarpsey.dyndns.org will be > swept away and burned to CD, and fresh packages will > arrive--that is, if nobody objects before then. Well, I've spent 2 days so far just grabbing incept, it's at 2.3gig so far - should I stop it & do it again when the new packages are avaliable? Hmmm...I would say if you've got disk space to spare, let the=20 current download finish. It would be nice if I wasn't the only=20 one with a package archive. If you need more time, I can always=20 wait. ;) BTW, ftp://skarpsey.dyndns.org/LATEST is just full of symlinks to=20 files under /incept. That might help save you some download=20 time... ;) --=20 Kelledin "If a server crashes in a server farm and no one pings it, does=20 it still cost four figures to fix?" |

For now, I'd say just don't worry about LATEST. It will change=20 very soon anyways--it always changes a little whenever a new=20 package revision makes its way up. Probably what I can do is=20 just create the ls -la listing on a weekly basis. (I was kind of hoping rsync would work out--rsync groks symlinks=20 just fine with the right options. oh well...) --=20 Kelledin "If a server crashes in a server farm and no one pings it, does=20 it still cost four figures to fix?" |

Indeed it does. I'll give it another go later, but I've been having all sorts of network issues at this end recently :( -- Terry Churchill : http://www.doc-linux.co.uk/ "Oh, *that*," said Vimes. Hmmm, don't we have an FTP server up on: ftp.inceptionos.org How about putting the packages up there, and what's happened to Enrico with the installer program?
