I've seen too many people on linux-kernel reporting IDE troubles=20
with 2.4.19. The kernel developers added a LOT of new stuff to=20
that release, so I wouldn't be surprised if broken IDE was one=20
of the things that got added.
I say we just stick to 2.4.18 now, then investigate 2.4.20 when=20
it comes down the pipe. 2.4.18 is something I _know_ doesn't=20
have much breakage.
