Can you beleave it ? it's almost 1 full year sence the first time saw the title, "Maximum Linux" and when I first saw that post on slashdot for a new Linux distro. ( I think it was slashdot ? )
Alot of interseting thoughts and ideas have come in the last year, And revolutions.
Just remenising about the past. Remeber kde1 ?

Well, we could have a 0.1 release if Kelledin would come out of the woodwork and see if CVS happens to be working...heck anyone with 'Net access from home -- which excludes me -- could check to see if it was up and running and then email Kelledin and tell him to post what he has to the CVS tree.

sorry, I've been out of touch for a while. various equipment failures and job search and all that.
(btw Michael, your mail provider b0rked trying to receive my e-mail reply?)
Anyways, I've uploaded the current patch of the kernel. I apparently can't upload the entire kernel source tree, since it's just too large. =( The patch is against 2.4.17; it includes rml's kpreempt 2.4.17-3 patch and the closest thing to an SGI-XFS-2.4.17 release.
Other things I'm considering patching in:
Ingo Monlar's O(1) scheduler (last time I tried it, though, it b0rked on my SMP box. that was H6)
IBM's NGPT (NextGen POSIX Threads). I'm considering building our distro from the ground-up on NGPT; it basically consists of kernel updates and replacement pthread libraries. The libraries are not quite drop-in replacement ready though; what I've got is currently built using the standard LinuxThreads.
As for CVS structure:
I've created a new module called PATCHES to hold all the various source patches we create. Soon I'll create a SPECS module to hold specfiles (basically RPM build scripts, file lists, and package summaries encapsulated in text files).
These two modules should end up providing enough for developers to download sources, patch them up, and build RPMs themselves, just to see how it will all work.
Someone with reasonably fast upstream bandwidth (i.e. not me) should probably host all the pre-built RPMs I've got ready, probably via anonymous FTP. I've got enough for knowledgeable people to install an entire working Linux system within a chroot; once we get the pre-built RPMs hosted, I'll probably provide simplified instructions for how to do that.

Is that our CVS on the SourceForge site that you are talking about?
Also, we sort of have a web site for the project at:
www.maxlinux.org
But, getting in touch with the person who is supposed to be running it is a pain as I cannot seem to get in contact with him. So, if anyone can give us web space on their servers it would be very much appreciated. I have just registered for the domain:
www.inceptionos.org
Although it won't be available for a while yet. And, I do have to say again, once we have code up developers will come providing all of us -- and I do mean all of us -- get the word out about this project.

Yup, that's the SourceForge CVS. I've created both the SPECS and PATCHES modules, which you can see through browsing WebCVS. There's also an incomplete "kernel" module that I stupidly tried to upload, knowing it might break due to size. =/ Now I'm trying to figure out how to delete that module...
For now, I'll stick my precompiled RPMs on an in-house anon FTP server. My IP is *reasonably* static ("reasonably" meaning my ISP hasn't changed it in months, but could do so at any time without my notice). You should be able to ftp to 12.237.135.160 and see an RPM/SRPM repository under the "cervix" directory. Remember, I've got a mere 128K of upstream bandwidth, so be gentle on me... ;)

Cool! Hey if anyone knows how to delete things from CVS can they please help Kelledin out.
Also, our domain name is almost here. It's going to cost CAD$51.00 -- that is $51.00 Canadian -- for two years. If anyone wants to help pay for it, half & half that would be most helpful...although I could pay for the whole thing for myself once I get the money from my taxes back. Or even if someone from America would like to pay for it, I think we'd get it for much cheaper because of the exchange rate between our two currencies. Anyways....
So, if anyone else has some information or any questions just post them on the forums.
