Manual update works fantastic, my pc has Maxlauncher auto update remaining to fail, with
manual update working fine.
Q: I turn off auto update at startup, however might it be plausible to have
an auto-update with a chosen periodical perimeter (to push it out to say
30-90 days or an entry of days), as a reminder to check in with it? The
auto-update at every start-up, like pop-ups in general, can be an
undesirable, and Maxlauncher is well-off being excellent, however admired
is your improving this app, staying close to your improvements is a good
thing to remember.
As far as I know, Windows firewall is a bit strange. There's no rule-based
priority. It uses the most restrictive.
FYI, MaxLauncher checks a file, http://madproton.users.sourceforge.net/maxlauncher/version/ga_version.txt
in version 1.18.0.0. Previous versions had a problem checking a file from
an https sourceforge site because it uses TLS 1.2 and .Net 3.5 does not
support it. That is why I moved the file to a different site.
It is very strange that auto-update fails but the manual update succeeds. Both are using the same code to check for updates.
Is auto-update only failing during startup from a cold/warm boot? If so, you might be experiencing a race condition where MaxLauncher checks for updates before your network connects.
When the computer has booted completely and you are connected to a network where you can browse the web, try starting MaxLauncher with auto-update checked. Does it still fail?
Thanks.

With pc running, internet connection working:
1. I selected/checkbox checked "Check for updates at startup"
2. Exitted MaxLauncher, i.e., with System Explorer assurance, I see MaxLauncher shutdown effectively.
3. Restart MaxLauncher
4. Nothing happened, no popup, no errors.
5. Whereas, using Help/Check for updates now, i.e., Manual Update, MaxLauncher-Popup reads, "MaxLauncher is up to date".
6. I hope this help, am not complaining, I will manual update periodically, using my failing memory, lol.

Ok. That mean auto-update is working. No message for auto-update means it
worked. No popup because it is annoying. Manual update has a popup for
successful or failed check.
Maybe I'll just put a message at the end of the menu bar if there is an
update. That way there is a reminder for those who turn auto-update off.
But still need to review it because people who hide the menu might not see
it.
Thanks for the response.

Prior to pc shutdown, last night, MaxLauncher was set to auto update.
At startup this morning, MaxLauncher-Popup reads, "MaxLauncher is unable to update".
You have the right idea, auto-update is working, i.e., auto-update is only failing during startup from a cold/warm boot, MaxLauncher is checking for updates before my network connects.
My I suggest you delay MaxLauncher's auto update, say by 15 minutes of so, so a pc is assured to have time to connect to Internet.
I think this is what Adobe Acrobat's Flash Player does and others applications, because it and another app needed me to pass them through my Windows Firewall Control, to update during this morning's startup, about 15mins after startup.
And or you do have a good idea with, "put a message at the end of the menu bar if there is an
update."
Kind Regards,
Jerry
