    • Having a little trouble starting MaxLauncher.
    • The first mid for the first F-key, the program has to create it? How do I make the program create it.
    • I was able to do this once, now trying on a different computer. Need babysteps for the first mid.
    • All the F-Keys after that. I did get several F-Keys going, along with the Tabs and edit-the-buttons
    • They all worked.
    • But now, when I tried adding a couple more F-Key (midfile), they don't do anything.
    • The other F-Keys done a month ago still work. But not the new ones.
    • Clicking on the 2 new F-Keys won't change to the new tab/buttons.
    • I know a mid file has to be created for each F-Key.
    • Maybe I'm doing it wrong now, what is the exact process?

      Hi Mary,

I'm not 100% sure what you are trying to do. I am guessing you are trying to assign one .mld file to each F-key?! If so ...

      Creating .mld files.
      1. Open MaxLauncher and File -> New.
      2. Name it and save it. Remember where you put it.
      3. Assigning to an F-key. RIght-click on and F-key and click on Edit and select the new .mld file (Click on the Browse button and select File).
*Repeat the steps 1-3 for each F-key. *

When you are done. Just click on an F-key and fill-in the Tabs/Buttons as you'd like.

FYI, an alternative to assigning a .mld file to F-key(s) is to use the Data option on the main menu. Just click Data->Add to add the currently open .mld file. You can rearrange it and choose your own accelatertor key (the underlined letters in the menu). For example, let say you have a file called main.mld and you want to select it using the letter 'm', just prepend the letter or character with and underscore ('_'). So to load the the main.mld file, just click Alt + D, then press M.

Let me know if you need any more help or if I misunderstood you inquiry.

      Thanks.

      Roberto

Yep that was it. Amazing how the File/New works :)
So I have the F-Key going, the tabs are simple just edit and name
The buttons on closer look, are a little fuzzy in the sense
sorry for the italics they want to stay there
    * those that do work from before have differing entries

    • I want to make sure I am doing this correctly
    • Target - is the program that will run
    • example c:\program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15/excel.exe

    • Arguments is the name of the file that the target will run

    • example d:\excelfiles\mytravelexpenses.xlxs

    • Start in - don't have a clue on what this is for or what to enter

    • I am assuming this is the folder where the program resides
    • Which means the Target entry and the Start in entry both contain
      the same folder
    • The only difference is, the Target has the executable file (excel.exe)
    • and the Start in doesn't have the executable

    Is this correct? Thanks

Can you post a screenshot? In Win10, some apps become fuzzy when changin resolutions or connecting an external monitor to a laptop. In that case, the app needs to be restarted.

Correct! Target is the same as in Shortcuts you would normally create on your desktop. Except in MaxLauncher, Target is only the executable file(.exe, .com, .bat, etc.) and the Argrument is what comes after (example: -o c:\myfile.txt).

Start in - don't have a clue on what this is for or what to enter

Same field that is in Shortcuts (.lnk). This is used by some programs; like setting its default directory.

FYI: For files with an association, like your example above d:\excelfiles\mytravelexpenses.xlxs, you can just put it in the Target. So when you Edit the button and Browse, just select the file itself. Basically, if you can click the file in File Explorer, you can put it in the Target field.

KB17 Assigning to a button using copy and paste

I'll check out the links, thanks. After I replied, I dragged a file from Explorer to a MaxLauncher button, and it worked very well. Checking the "edit" on the button I dragged it to, it showed the path of the file and the same path but just the folder without the file.

So it looks like I am set. Now on to the links, thanks!

Thank you so much for your explanation! I want to start over with a brand new ML menu. Is it possible to still keep my current ML Menu so I can make sure not to leave anything out? Then once I can get the new going I can delete the old. I just want to keep the current menu far away from the new.

I think I used the wrong phrase when I mentioned "fuzzy". It wasn't anything to do with the ML program, or the appearance. The program is fine. It was my unclear understanding of how to do the "edit" entries correctly. That's what I was calling fuzzy - my thinking!

But with your excellent explanation, I now know both how to make the entries and also why I am doing so. Much appreciated!

      Hi,

I am not sure what you mean by ML Menu. But below is the information you're probably inquiring about...

app.cfg - contains main menu settings - basically everything you change in the main menu. Location is displayed on Help->Program Information.

favorites.cfg - contains F-keys data. Location is displayed on Help->Program Information.

*.mld - contains Tab/Buttons data. Location is stored by the end-user.

      Just copy them somewhere else.

      Cheers!
