I just found out that 1.20.6 is available now - I totally missed the release of .5. But anyway: what's new in this beta? I did not see obvious changes - but I may well have missed something...

I realize it's even more work (but maybe that could also be automated) - but wouldn't it be nice if there was a readme.txt with the latest news about a certain version? Or a forum-thread (that users could the follow to automatically be notified if there were new releases ;))

      Hi,

All changes are listed in the “Release Notes” section of the “Downloads” page. https://maxlauncher.sourceforge.io/downloads.html

Personally, I did not like the idea of readme.txt due to the following reasons…
      1. Users need to download and install first to be able to read the changes.
      2. Same as #1 even if the changes are displayed after installation – like most programs.
      3. Some users do not want to bother with updating if the changes do not affect how they use the program. This happens when there are only minor fixes and/or features they don’t really need or use.
      4. More work for me … ☹ One additional file to update for each change I make. Currently, I have to update the website, my personal notes, the version control system and the Features/Bug request pages for each modification.

So, in my opinion, the changes on the “Downloads” page of the website is sufficient. Users can read the changes and decide whether to download and install the new version which I think is more efficient.

The program itself checks for new tested releases (aka. GA – generally available release, for MaxLauncher it is #.#.0.0) under [Settings] -> [Options] -> [Check for updates on startup]. There is also a [Check for updates] under the [Help] menu, in case they don’t like to check it at startup.

The reason why you are not being notified is the Beta versions which have a numbering scheme of #.#.#.# is that it is not implement. I will add that in the future so that other willing users can help test the program before releasing the GA version. This will help me a lot because I simply do not have the resources and time to test new releases.

Ah - thanks for that. Would you believe that I just did not see that text download-page? (I have bookmarked the discussion-page and I usually just click on the Files-tab and browse the folders to see if there are new files. Will make sure to go to the Download-page instead ;-)
