The error ocurred after installing a Windows Security update, and rebooting the PC
Hi Martin,
I apologize for the late response. This bug has been going on for years unfortunately. I’m trying to figure out a way to fix it. It’s very difficult because it is very rare – about once every few years – only about 3 people have reported that it happened to them once in about 6 years.
The strange part is that it doesn’t even give an error. My “guess” is that sometimes when there is an update that requires a restart, it terminates the program without allowing it to finish cleanly.
This problem only affects C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\MaxLauncher\app.cfg which contains the settings in the menu. You can delete this file and restart the program to start fresh. It wouldn’t hurt to back it up as well. You can also exit the program before restarting after an update – not ideal but effective.</username>

Thanks for the response! It hasn't come up again since the first time, but one side effect was that it deleted all the items I had set up for the F1-F10 Function Keys. Also, it doesn't let me drag-and-drop things to assign them to a button like it used to allow. That's frustrating!

I certainly hope not. I’ve been using this program and the one before it with almost the same code for 10 years and I have never seen that error personally. Not reassuring I know but I am still trying to think of a way to somehow make it less annoying.
With regards to the F1-F10 being deleted, that is so strange because the data for that is save on a different file (favorites.cfg) and it saved on demand. That file should not even be affected by the restart. Is there a chance that you have accidentally deleted it when deleting the app.cfg?
As for the inability to drag and drop onto F* keys, the only thing that will prevent it is that if the <favoritesconfigfilero>false</favoritesconfigfilero> is set to true in Portable.cfg and that’s only if you created the file Portable.cfg to relocate data locations.
Are you using the standard install version or the portable version?
