Initial Comment:
Win XP SP2, Norton AV 2005, Maxima 5.9.2.
This AM, with today's AV updates, the downloaded 
installer for Mixiam was announced to be "suscpicious" 
by an overnight scan. I told NAV to ignore file. I 
keep the installer in my updates directory - it's been 
there for a while.

Win 98, Norton AV 2003, Maxima 5.9.2.
This AM, with today's AV updates, no detection or 
any "problem".

Assume, but don't know for certain, that newer Norton 
product is generating a false positive. If this 
message starts a "me too" thread, would suggest that 
someone knowledgeable in Maxima, et al, contact Norton.

Hi Jeff,

I trief to install Maxima 5.9.2 (and later 5.9.1) on my PC
with Windows XP SP2, the internal firewall is disabled, just
Symantec AntiVirus (Client in the Network) is active.

I can not launch maxima - neither from the command line, nor
xmaxima nor wxmaxima. As there is no active firewall on my
PC, I suppose that Symantec AntiVirus might be the problem...

Is there any solution to get maxima working WITH Symantec AV
installed?
(However, on my previous system configuration with Win XP
SP1, there was no problem with maxima and Symantec AV.
Unfortunately, I had to do a clean install and now maxima
does not work any more. :-()
