Summary: Can't find info files after installing

Initial Comment:
After doing a make install and make install-info,
maxima can't find the info files for describe. 
Reproduce via:

(C1) ? integrate;
Error in function SI::SETUP-INFO:  Failed to find info
directory

James A. has patched configure to produce the right autoconf
variables.

I get the empty string, "", for both of these vars.

On a side note, "make install" says

/bin/sh: !: not found
 .././install-sh -c -m 644 ./numeric/riemsum.mac
/usr/local/share/maxima/5.9.0pre-cvs/share/numeric/riemsum.mac

for every single file in share.  I think I'm missing an
extra .. or have too many ../.. in some Makefile somewhere.

Tested with the version from 6-18, around noon or so.

Ray,

I cannot reproduce this bug.  A simple "make install" should
suffice. What do you get from
:lisp *maxima-infodir*
:lisp *autoconf-infodir*
?
