I took a closer look at the Tex-related functions in maxima and some 
mailing list entries. The tex functions are more than enough to tune 
latex for a given problem domain (Computational Electromagnetics, 
Quantum Mechanics,etc). The equations tend to take on specific forms in 
Coupled Mode Theory as well.

Like everyone else, I do want to focus on the math. The publishing end 
and access to maxima from other interfaces is for either book publishers 
or users of systems like SageMath. That can wait until I have a good 
handle on the core skills.
