I would start with the RC circuit which is simple, and then add either a coil in one or the other branch. If you can dodge around loop/node analysis (I don't know if you have a lesson plan), I strongly suggest the transfer matrix approach which can build up ladders (and more after awhile) of indefinite length via transfer functions from input to output by means of the elementary transfer matrices of R,C,L, Xformers. This is physically meaningful and would be an introduction to the more basic loop/node analysis.
