Because it's there. <shrug> Oh, also one has complex numbers which
don't require rectform to get the obvious result.

You raise lots of interesting questions, for which I mostly don't have
any answers. I'm just wondering why we would want to make it impossible
to work with Lisp complex numbers; it seems an unmathematical attitude.
But unless you or anybody actually arranges for Maxima to expel Lisp
complex numbers, I don't have any actual opposition.
