I don't know if it's the same, but it was a legitimate message sent from Sourceforge and I answered it in the link provided in Sourceforge. I think that message is just an attempt from Sourceforge to try to make the current lists subscribers to sign in for other news letters and services from Sourceforge. It is very inconvenient and I hope they don't refresh our list membership removing those who didn't reply! My opinion is that we (list administrators) should save a list of the current members so we can reset it in case they do some mass removal. Best regards, Jaime |

It might be even worse than that. My understanding is that a new contract for signing in to the lists is being accepted by the user who responds. Or am I wrong here? > It is very > inconvenient and I hope they don't refresh our list membership removing those who didn't reply! > The mail which I got, too, explicitly announces removal from the lists in case one does not reply, giving a deadline in my case of June 29. I also thought 3 times before replying, but finally I did. One should think ahead of time about how to deal with mass removals, which are likely to come up. > My opinion is that we (list administrators) should save a list of the current members so we can reset it in case > they do some mass removal. > ... if sourceforge allows such a centralized resetting at all. As long as they continue using mailman, I can go the administration page and do a mass subscription. If they stop using mailman, I then have other servers running it and we could migrate the list there (one of my servers is currently being used to replace the old list in U. Texas). I'd like to here other user's comments. If many users feel uncomfortable with this annoying message and the new contract, it is then a good time to migrate our list to a new server :) Cheers, Jaime |

I would not click there either. But you can do what I did, which is to visit sourceforge.net and log in and (re?) subscribe to whatever. Just in case. RJF |

As I have three different lists I use through sourceforge, I got a single email asking to confirm all three. When logged onto sourceforge, the same request was available. I did the confirmation as a matter of course through my sourceforge account. I have had this happen about three or four times over the last maybe decade for the various lists I am interested in. regards Bruce Rennie On 15/06/17 20:06, Jaime Villate wrote: > On 15-06-2017 10:51, John C Frain wrote: >> I have received an email asking me to confirm my subscription to a >> maxima list through a link in the email. My question would be now if the new contract is much worse than the original one was: often these changes are driven by external events that make internet firms try to defend themselves without any intention to limit the rights of the users. And sometimes they really are a try to make things less complicated. Other times, though, they prepare big changes instead... -- Diese Nachricht wurde von meinem Android-Gerät mit K-9 Mail gesendet. |
