The command entermatrix(2,2); or with any other
arguments causes xmaxima to freeze. If I resize the
window it spits out an error message. entermaxima
works fine in a terminal shell.

The problem is that entergmatrix dialog lack end of lines on
    GCL.
Try entermatrix in console with clisp and GCL and see the
diffrence. In both cases emtermatrix works but with GCL
all prompts mount in one line. It seems also that xmaxima
requires one more additional EOL. So with xmaxima -l clisp
emtermatrix works but looks exactly as iwith GCL in console
(all prompts in one line). Actually it works also with
xmaxima -l gcl if you enter all responces blindly.

I have had a similar problem with the windows version of
Maxima and I have had to enter values blindly in order to
enter a matrix... With the queries for such values being
    printed afterwords...

For the record, entermatrix works as expected (with prompts
interspersed with inputs) with Maxima 5.9.2 and 5.9.3 (both
    GCL 2.6.7) on Windows.

Also works OK with 5.9.3 / Clisp 2.34, Xmaxima and command
    line Maxima, on Linux.

If it also works with GCL on Linux then we can close this
    report.

entermatrix also works OK with Maxima 5.9.3cvs1 / GCL 2.6.7
/ Xmaxima and command line Maxima on Linux. Also works for
other combinations, see other comments below.

I don't know what specific changes to Maxima and/or GCL
might have affected this, but I can't reproduce it. Closing
this report as "works for me".
