<p class="MsoNormal">AUSTIN, Texas June 25, 2012 - <a href="http://www.livingwithmeaning.org/">An Independent Me (AIM),</a> a full-time residence and summer camp for adults (18 and older) with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Round Rock celebrates the grand opening on <strong>Saturday, June 30th from 4-8 p.m</strong>. AIM kicked off its first session on June 11, 2012 and the first two weeks have been a major success. Adults at AIM have learned how to sew, build a picnic table from wood planks, care for livestock on the ranch-style property, and plant the seeds for an on-site vegetable garden. The grand opening is open to the public and will include bar-b-que, horseback riding, a petting zoo, games, and a silent auction featuring camper-made art and picnic tables.</p>

I put jdom in my WEB-INF/lib folder as well. I assume that's what you meant? I still got the same error. I guess I could fiddle with the Tomcat shared directories but I'm not terribly optimistic about it. Pretty sure Tomcat already has jdom configured. This is just for research purposes only, to learn about the MVC framework and to teach others about it using a simple example. Since Maverick is lightweight and doesn't have unnecessary bells and whistles I decided to start with it. If I can't fix this relatively fast, then I'll go with tagonist. It looks like it's even better suited to what I want. Finally, Tomcat can be funky when it comes to where you put these jars, so you may have to play around with putting it (only) in WEB-INF/lib or one of the Tomcat shared directories. > Are you actually contemplating Maverick or just doing research? > Maverick is pretty dated, especially in an ajax-driven world. > Post-Maverick I ended up developing http://tagonist.tigris.org/, which > does most of what I needed from Maverick but in 500 lines of code... > and now I use http://code.google.com/p/htmleasy/ + Cambridge for basic > html rendering, although that tends to be fairly simple given that > most data is rendered by javascript/ajax. And my 2c on that is that for years I've used Wicket (and in fact are one of the core contributors) but nowadays stay clear of Java web frameworks altogether. I tend to use just plain HTTP services using Jersey/ JAXRS and JavaScript directly (e.g. using jQuery, though I might throw in a framework like Angular). The only thing left then is something to dispatch requests and handle security. I use Wicket for that, just because I know it well, though you could just use a servlet filter for it or a light framework like HTMLEasy, which seems like an excellent choice. Good luck, Eelco |

Well this is indeed a blast from the past! You seem to be missing jdom.jar from your classpath as well. There will be a version in your maverick distribution, or you can find the latest version here: http://www.jdom.org/ Are you actually contemplating Maverick or just doing research? Maverick is pretty dated, especially in an ajax-driven world. Post-Maverick I ended up developing http://tagonist.tigris.org/, which does most of what I needed from Maverick but in 500 lines of code... and now I use http://code.google.com/p/htmleasy/ + Cambridge for basic html rendering, although that tends to be fairly simple given that most data is rendered by javascript/ajax. Up for a blast from the past? I am trying to run a very basic web app using Maverick mostly to learn about the MVC framework. However, I am currently stymied by an error that I keep getting. The dispatcher refuses to load. This is the error: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.jdom.JDOMException Full stack trace: http://pastebin.com/Sv4bs4r1 I get this error on both Tomcat 6 and Tomcat 4.1.30, with both JDom 1.0 and the latest version. I have maverick.jar in my WEB-INF/lib folder and I have the library added to my build path. Here are snippets from my maverick.xml and web.xml, respectively: <views> <view id="MyView" path="home.jsp"> </view> </views> <commands> <command name="cmd"> <controller class="controllers.MyController"/> <view name="success" path="success.jsp" /> <view name="error" path="failure.jsp" /> </command> ---- <servlet> <display-name>Maverick Dispatcher</display-name> <servlet-name>dispatcher</servlet-name> <servlet-class>org.infohazard.maverick.Dispatcher</servlet-class> <load-on-startup>2</load-on-startup> </servlet> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>dispatcher</servlet-name> <url-pattern>*.m</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it. |

That was it. Under webapps, I still had both copies of maverick jars. I was so focused on JDOM, I didn't think to look for two copies of maverick. I had looked for that in the lib directory in my source, but didn't think to look under webapps. Thanks for your help everyone. It looks like it is failing on a call to a jdom Document or Element but I have jdom in the lib directory with maverick and everything else. Element and Document are definitely classes in the jar file. I am really stuck. It is failing on line 140. I would really appreciate some more ideas. What am I missing?
Thanks,
Angela

You can see what is *actually* at line #140 and that will hopefully provide further clue as to what classes are missing. I didn't change maverick. Just pulled in the jar file, that is all. I am using it as-is maverick. The log file doesn't have any error messages but stops just before reading the maverick file.

Angela, As I recall, Tomcat gives you several places to dump jar files: there's the webapp's WEB-INF/lib/ directory, Tomcat's common/lib/ directory, and shared/lib. My general rule was to put everything related to the application into the webapp's lib/ whenever possible. Also, Tomcat ignores your CLASSPATH, so don't rely on that for loading classes. And make sure your JAVA_HOME is set correctly (best to point it to a JDK instead of just a JRE). Disclaimer: It's been a while since I've done anything with Tomcat. So take this advice with a shaker or so of salt. :) Regards, Thomas ________________________________ From: Angela Day [mailto:ak...@ya...] Sent: Wednesday, April 21, 2010 3:41 PM To: mav...@li... Are there more logs you can share? Anything that points to what class it is trying to locate? I don't work with Tomcat often, but remember that sometimes things get scattered throughout multiple logs. Well this is a blast from the past. It's hard to tell what's going on here since the reported line number (Loader:140) doesn't actually point at real code. Have you customized the Maverick source? Clearly there is something missing on the classpath. Perhaps JDOM had an incompatible change... try the 0.9 version? You don't really need a specific plugin to get that working; it's just a matter of configuring Maverick as is described here: http://mav.sourceforge.net/maverick-manual.html#N10167 You can get separate plugins for Velocity in Eclipse (http://veloedit.sourceforge.net/ or http://velocitywebedit.sourceforge.net/). Hi,
I need to set up environment in eclipse to develop an
application using maverick and velocity. I tried using
maverick plugin for eclipse (mavplug 0.3.0), but I am
not able to work with it. Could any one provide some
solution for it.
Thanking you in advance

It's hardly active, but the source code is stable and quite accessible, and there are still a few people monitoring this list. Maverick is a nice pick if you like it's composition pattern (using transforms, which is kind of the inverse of, say, Struts' tiles), and I think the code is well organized and easy to follow and extend. Also consider looking at Stripes and Click if you want to go the web MVC route. Personally, I think that if you're considering developing your web interface in JS, you might be better off just developing your backend as services, maybe using something like Apache CXF or Restlet for instance. Unless your site is very complicated and you want to use a web MVC framework to structure the flow through your site. I'm looking for a simple MVC for Java/ExtJS apps and I'm wondering if Maverick is still an active project, looks like no updates have been added in the last years. thanks -- Mario Rodriguez |
