Dear Matsim Users: I am interested in Matsim and I have studied it since the tutorial ended in Shanghai. However, there are some questions as follows to ask you. Fisrt, I still cannot understand the two parameters named "StorageCapacityFactor" and "FlowCapacityFactor" despite the tutors have interpreted it at the class. I mean when we need to change the two parameters' value and why we do not change the corresponding parameters' value like "Capacity" in the links of network config file. Second, the Matsim introduces the marginal utility to calculate the plan score. For example, it uses logit model to describe the marginal model of activites, that is with the increase of activity time, the growth of activity utility tend to be slower and slower. However, the Matsim uses linear function to describe the disutility of travel activities. I think it is impractical because as the travel distance or time is increased, the growth of disutility should be faster and faster. After all, nobody likes a long travel. Third, in the planCalcScore module of full config file, there is a type attribute named "scoringParameters". There are some parameters in this attrbute such as earlyDeparture, lateArrival (<param name="earlyDeparture" value="-0.0" />, <param name="lateArrival" value="-18.0" />). However, Why I cannot find the "shortDuration" (<param name="shortDuration" value="0.0" />)? Is it permitted to add some other parameters in the full config file? If so, how to add them? I am looking forward your early reply. Thank you! Best Wishes! Xi Yuliang |

Dear all, My question is regarding the simulation output of public transport. In version 6 events file, there were items such as "transit_walk" mode and "startwaitingforpt" event that let me calculate the walking time to the station and waiting time for the transit, however, I don't have such items when I run transit simulation with version 7. Is there any way to get them in version 7 or should I just use the old version? thank you very much. kind regards, Zahra *--------------------------------------------------------------------------* *Zahra Navidi* PhD Candidate Geomatics Discipline Department of Infrastructure Engineering The University of Melbourne Victoria, 3010 Department: http://www.ie.unimelb.edu.au Project: http://imod-au.info/ |

Something else: MATSim does not "re-sort" the activities; instead, it executes them in the sequence given in the plans file. So if daysim maybe gives them out in arbitrary sequence, you will have to order them before you insert them into MATSim. Best, Kai On 07 Jul 2016, at 09:33, Thibaut Dubernet <thi...@us...<mailto:thi...@us...>> wrote: Dear Sashikanth, what you describe is a feature: an agent will stay at its last activity "forever". MATSim does not try to guess what is the "home" of agents and whether they should go back there at night or not. To solve your problem, add a "home" activity at the end of your day, without end time (and a trip from shop to home, of course). Please also be aware that start times are not used for simulation. Activities start when the agent arrives, which might differ from expectations due to congestion. Dear Saba, Scenario.createId() is a method from a pretty old version of MATSim. In newest versions, you want to use Id.createPersonId() instead. It seems you based your code on an old example from the Web. I would advise to use examples from the tutorial.programming package in the MATSim source code, which allows to make sure that the syntax is consistent with the method you use. How to find those examples differ depending on how you "installed" MATSim: please ask back if you cannot find them. Hope this helps, Thibaut Le 06. 07. 16 à 22:34, Saba Daftari a écrit : > > Dear MATSim users, > > > I am trying to generate a population file but this error (The method > createId(String) is undefined for the type Scenario) comes out on this > line: > > Person person = populationFactory.createPerson(sc.createId("1")); > > Could anyone help me out with this error? > > The full code: > > > package myProject; > > import java.util.ArrayList; > > import java.util.List; > > import java.util.Map; > > import java.util.TreeMap; > > > > import org.matsim.api.core.v01.Coord; > > import org.matsim.api.core.v01.Id <http://org.matsim.api.core.v01.Id>; > > import org.matsim.api.core.v01.Scenario; > > import org.matsim.api.core.v01.network.Network; > > import org.matsim.api.core.v01.population.Activity; > > import org.matsim.api.core.v01.population.Person; > > import org.matsim.api.core.v01.population.Plan; > > import org.matsim.api.core.v01.population.Population; > > import org.matsim.api.core.v01.population.PopulationFactory; > > import org.matsim.core.api.internal.MatsimWriter; > > import org.matsim.core.config.Config; > > import org.matsim.core.config.ConfigUtils; > > import org.matsim.core.scenario.ScenarioUtils; > > import org.matsim.core.utils.geometry.CoordinateTransformation; > > import > org.matsim.core.utils.geometry.transformations.TransformationFactory; > > > /** > > * > > * Creates a sample Population of one Person and writes it to a file. > > * > > * > > * > > */ > > public class POnePersonPopulationGenerator { > > > public static void main(String[] args) { > > /* > > * We enter coordinates in the WGS84 reference system, but we want > them to appear in the population file > > * projected to UTM33N, because we also generated the network that way. > > */ > > CoordinateTransformation ct = > > TransformationFactory.getCoordinateTransformation(TransformationFactory.WGS84, > TransformationFactory.WGS84_UTM33N); > > /* > > * First, create a new Config and a new Scenario. > > */ > > Config config = ConfigUtils.createConfig(); > > Scenario sc = ScenarioUtils.createScenario(config); > > > /* > > * Pick the Network and the Population out of the Scenario for > convenience. > > */ > > Network network = sc.getNetwork(); > > Population population = sc.getPopulation(); > > > /* > > * Pick the PopulationFactory out of the Population for convenience. > > * It contains methods to create new Population items. > > */ > > PopulationFactory populationFactory = population.getFactory(); > > /* > > * Create a Person designated "1" and add it to the Population. > > */ > > Person person = populationFactory.createPerson(sc.createId("1")); > > population.addPerson(person); > > > /* > > * Create a Plan for the Person > > */ > > Plan plan = populationFactory.createPlan(); > > /* > > * Create a "home" Activity for the Person. Dear Sashikanth, what you describe is a feature: an agent will stay at its last activity "forever". Dear All, I have recently come across an issue with MATSim simulation. I am using a DaySim based ABM modeling system to generate my initial set of plans. In some cases, DaySim produces activity plans which spend zero time at their activity location. For example, for a person in my data, the start time of the activity is 19:07 and the end time of the activity is also 19:07. In such a case, MATSim simulates this activity at the end of the simulation day. Is there a reason for this behavior? Please look at MATSim' s output below. The shopping activity starting at 19:07 is simulated at the end of all other activities. Ideally, this activity should be simulated before the home activity which starts at 19:10 [image: Inline image 1] ............................. ............................. <act type="home" link="19278" x="367830.771442" y="3191298.07437" start_time="15:25:00" end_time="17:10:00" /> <leg mode="car" dep_time="17:10:00" trav_time="00:02:27" arr_time="17:12:27"> <route type="links">19278 19275 19283 19293</route> </leg> <act type="pers.bus" link="19293" x="369317.147491" y="3190504.43789" start_time="17:13:00" end_time="19:07:00" /> <leg mode="car" dep_time="19:07:00" trav_time="00:02:17" arr_time="19:09:17"> <route type="links">19293 19294 19284 19276 19277 19278</route> </leg> <act type="home" link="19278" x="367830.771442" y="3191298.07437" start_time="19:10:00" end_time="26:59:00" /> <leg mode="car" dep_time="26:59:00" trav_time="00:01:19" arr_time="27:00:19"> <route type="links">19278 19275 19283 19293 19314</route> </leg> <act type="shop" link="19314" x="369351.58378" y="3190504.14796" start_time="19:07:00" end_time="19:07:00" /> </plan> -- Sashikanth Gurram PhD Candidate Civil and Environmental Engineering University of South Florida Ph: 831-229-7399 |

Indeed, I thought it was not a good option to have an October-November report followed by a December-January one. The latter would have been an odd time span for the report, from a calendar standpoint and, most importantly, from a work standpoint (given upcoming holidays and TRB). So, I decided to stretch the current report over three months and go for a fresh start (and back to the two months rhythm) in 2016. All this means that I'm kindly asking you to send me your contributions until December 11th. Thanks a lot! Best, Francesco From: Ciari Francesco Sent: Freitag, 25. Dear All, The MATSim Monthly Report for March is online. https://matsim.atlassian.net/wiki/display/MATPUB/Report+March+2015 This is a bit late and this has two main reasons. The first is the fact that the last week of March, as you know, several MATSim related Meetings took place in Singapore. This made the whole process a bit slower. The second is that, exactly in one of those meetings, it has been decided to reduce the frequency of such reports. This will become rather bimonthly starting from the next time. It was therefore a bit less urgent, since you won't be asked for a new contribution in two weeks but rather in late Mai. I have also introduced a couple of small modifications, also following the discussion in Singapore. The most important are: - Moving the news about MATSim contribs in a separate paragraph part of the developers corner (it seemed to me as fitting well there, but I'm open to put it in a separate section) - Marking in red the changes (The title if the whole item is new, or something in the description) Best, Francesco ------------------------------- Francesco Ciari, PhD Lecturer, Research Associate ETH Zürich, IVT - Institute for Transport Planning and Systems HIL F 33.2, Stefano-Franscini-Platz 5 8093 Zürich, CH ci...@iv...<mailto:ci...@iv...> Tel: +41 44 633 71 65 From: Ciari Francesco [mailto:ci...@iv...] Sent: Montag, 30. We decided, therefore, to create "a place" where this information would be collected and updated regularly. This place will be on the sharing platform Confluence (https://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence) where a MATSim sharing point has been already created (https://matsim.atlassian.net/wiki/display/MATPUB/MATSim). The overview will have the form of a monthly report were every team working with MATSim will be given the opportunity to report about its latest activity. I will take care of creating and uploading the report every month. To do that, clearly, I need your help! Therefore what I'm asking is that every team send me a short note on ongoing MATSim projects, recently closed projects and upcoming projects. If anything else that you believe relevant for the community happened, you are very welcome to share that too. I will then organize the material on a page like this: https://matsim.atlassian.net/wiki/display/MATPUB/Report+September+2014 . This example gives you also an idea on how much information is needed. This is not so much, and it shouldn't therefore take so long. But we believe that it will be very helpful to improve information flow in the community. I'm kindly asking you to have your contribution until the end of this week (October 3). Thanks, Francesco Ps.: Please remember, coordinate this within your team first and do NOT send any individual report (unless you are the only one working with MATSim at your institution). |

Dear Mohammad: Related to your questions: 1) The difference between the "regular" and "emission" network is the attribute "type" that categorizes the emission links. For example, one particular link can be defined as the following: <link id="2726" from="27" to="26" length="200" freespeed="8.3" capacity="120.0" permlanes="2.0" oneway="1" modes="car" *type="02" */> The file roadTypeMapping allows to identify the road type according the HBEFA specifications, in that file, you can find the corresponding definition, for example: *02*;40kmh;URB/Access/40. So, I think that your emission network and roadTypeMapping are fine and correspond with your regular network. As far as I know the transformation considers the link's free speed of the normal network, therefore if you need to change something, you need to check the free-speeds in the normal network and apply again the conversion process. 2) The online HBEFA database does not have enough data to generate the emission factors. You need to get the licence in order to download the complete version. For students, the license cost approximately EUR. 50. 3) I have attached the vehicles definition file that I have used for one of my tests. I hope I have answered the questions. Let me know how is going. Cheers, Rolando. On Fri, Jul 1, 2016 at 1:58 AM, Mohammad Aljamal <m7...@vt...> wrote: > Dear Rolando, > > I hope you are doing very well. |

Dear Mohammad, I have used the emissions of MATSim extension previously following the documentation steps and the extension's code. I am going to try to summarize that I did. First, you need to prepare some important input files: a) Network and Road Types: We need to re-create the network with respective road types according to HBEFA categorization. For to do that, use the java class code attached (RoadTypeMapper.java) that allows the classification of the network links according to its free-speed (see method mapLink2RoadType). The outcome is the emission network (XML) file and the raodTypeMapping file. The road type file looks like the following: VISUM_RT_NR;VISUM_RT_NAME;HBEFA_RT_NAME 01;30kmh;URB/Access/30 02;40kmh;URB/Access/40 031;50kmh-1l;URB/Local/50 032;50kmh-2l;URB/Distr/50 b) The emission factors: This is a little difficult part because you need previously to get the HBEFA database. To get the emission factors, you can follow the steps described in "Export from HBEFA3.1" in http://matsim.org/apidocs/emissions/0.7.0/org/matsim/contrib/emissions/package-summary.html. After that, you need to filter only the emission factors corresponding to the road types which are defined in the roadTypeMapping file. The outcome must be cold average and cold detail records and hot average and hot detail records (EFAColdAvg.csv,EFAHotAvg.csv,EFAColdDetail.csv,EFAHotDetail.csv). c) Vehicle definition file: To define the vehicle categorization for my scenario that I did was to use a classification according to the year model and after that assign an HBEFA category (Euro2-Euro3, etc.) The outcome here is the emissionVehicles (XML) file. Do not forget that your vehicle ids must be the same that agents ids in the initial plans. Second, use the configuration file provided by the emission extension code, change properly the next lines: <module name="network"> <param name="inputNetworkFile" value="&INBASE;/emissionNetwork.xml" /> </module> <module name="plans"> <param name="inputPlansFile" value="&INBASE;/initialplans.xml.gz" /> </module> <module name="emissions" > <!-- REQUIRED: file with HBEFA 3.2 fleet average cold emission factors --> <param name="averageFleetColdEmissionFactorsFile" value="&INBASE;/EFAColdAvg.csv" /> <!-- REQUIRED: file with HBEFA 3.2 fleet average warm emission factors --> <param name="averageFleetWarmEmissionFactorsFile" value="&INBASE;/EFAHotAvg.csv" /> <!-- OPTIONAL: file with HBEFA 3.2 detailed cold emission factors --> <param name="detailedColdEmissionFactorsFile" value="&INBASE;/EFAColdDetail.csv" /> <!-- OPTIONAL: file with HBEFA 3.2 detailed warm emission factors --> <param name="detailedWarmEmissionFactorsFile" value="&INBASE;/EFAHotDetail.csv" /> <!-- REQUIRED: mapping from input road types to HBEFA 3.1 road type strings --> <param name="emissionRoadTypeMappingFile" value="&INBASE;/roadTypeMapping.txt" /> <!-- definition of a vehicle for every person (who is allowed to choose a vehicle in the simulation): - REQUIRED: vehicle type Id must start with the respective HbefaVehicleCategory followed by `;' - OPTIONAL: if detailed emission calculation is switched on, vehicle type Id should aditionally contain HbefaVehicleAttributes (`Technology;SizeClasse;EmConcept'), corresponding to the strings in detailedWarmEmissionFactorsFile --> <param name="emissionVehicleFile" value="&INBASE;/emissionVehicles.xml" /> <!-- if true then detailed emission factor files must be provided! --> <param name="usingDetailedEmissionCalculation" value="true" /> </module> 3) Test it!: run the RunEmissionToolOnlineExample.java (into emission extension example package) So far, those are the steps that you need to follow. Good Luck! Rolando. Shinshu University Nagano Japan. On Tue, Jun 21, 2016 at 5:45 AM, Mohammad Aljamal <m7...@vt...> wrote: > > Dear All, > > I need to compute the emissions for the data that I have. Dear All, I need to compute the emissions for the data that I have. But I checked the tutorial for emissions and it was not helpful ( it is very complicated). The idea is not clear. Can anyone give me some hints to compute the emissions note that I already have a network and population files? Can anyone tell me what do I need to add in the configuration file, and if there is any path to use in the command line? Sincerely, Mohammad. |

Dear all, We have a question regarding the multimodal module. We have found inconsistencies in departure times for multimodal simulations, when multimodal trips are enabled. For an agent performing a multimodal trip, we found that departure time of each leg is always the same (not updated from mode to mode). The departure time for the first mode activity is that of the activity end time, and arrival time is equal to departure time + travel time. Once the agent changes leg mode from lets say walk to public transport the departure time is the same as for the previous leg rather than the arrival time from the previous ‘activity’ walking. See the example of output activity diaries below (in red the inconsistencies). If the scoring function and/or utility function uses the sum of all travel times this would not affect the term related with travel but it does affect the term of activity since the final arrival time to the activity and hence it will affect the available time to perform the destination activity. Hi, My name is Quan Zhang. I am a master of Information Technology studying at University of Melbourne. Currently, I am doing a research about DRVP in Matsim. Now I have generated "plan" for Matsim based on trips data on Melbourne. The activity in this plan is based on coordinate. And there is only coordiante for every acitvity. But in DRVP, every activity need an "link id" so that the Matsim can calculate the route for this activity. Specifically, according to the coordiante of each activity, I should find a link from network for this activity. I do not know how to get a "link id" through a coordinate in Matsim. Could you give me some introduction? Thank you very much! Kind regards, Quan |

Dear Raymond, I think you would have to look into EditRoutes how it is done there. Note that there is a variety of methods, some of them pre-trip and some of them en-route. There is also a bit of messiness at least in the development version, which came out of the fact that we now have the option to always include walk legs before and after car legs (as it should be), but some of the infrastructure in EditRoutes was not compatible with this. So you need to be clear if you want to replan the full trip (from activity to activity), or just the leg. Ok, first off, thank you to everyone who has been helping me through this for the past 2-3 weeks. I am very close to what I need to do, but my last hurdle is this: I need to be able to insert my own route during a simulation run. I have implemented a MobsimBeforeSimStepListener and I can see everything I need to change: mobsimAgent Plan CurrentPlanElement What I need to figure out is how to replace just the current route, and how to build one myself. If I read the API correctly, the EditRoutes method still uses the internal matsim tripRouter to build the new route. I want to do this part myself. Basically, what I am looking for is how do I build a route myself, and then how do I insert it during the MobsimBeforeSimStepListener such that it will use my new route and not the original? Thanks again, Ray |

It’s 4.0 - in your repository, you already have all the libraries in the “libs” sub-folder of the matsim folder. Fixing your project configuration should solve it. Our supported examples use Maven for project configuration. In general, I would suggest: - start from one of our general examples - progress to the more specialized functionality you want to use (withinday in your case) - only then start integrating into your own larger system Cheers Michael |

I'll get back in touch the last week of April for a new update. Best, Francesco From: Ciari Francesco Sent: Freitag, 4. It would be great to have it until the end of the next week (October 2nd). As with this edition we are completing the first year of MATSim reports, I'd like to take this as an opportunity to ask you a short feedback: Do you find it useful? (for some perhaps the question should be: did you ever had a look at it?) Do you have any suggestion to improve it? Thanks a lot! Best, Francesco From: Ciari Francesco Sent: Freitag, 10. April 2015 13:30 To: 'mat...@li...'; 'Matsim Developers' Cc: Gunnar Flötteröd Subject: MATSim monthly report --> March report is online! Therefore I'm inviting you to send your contributions to me for the new Monthly Report. It would be great to have it until the end of the current week (April 3rd). Thanks a lot! Therefore I'm inviting you to send your contributions to me for the new Monthly Report. Given the small changes planned in the format, I'm asking you to provide the following information on your projects (if you haven't already): 1- (Official) Title 2- Short description of the whole project (at most 2-3 sentences, as the large majority of you did already) 3- Current status (1 sentence, what you are currently doing) 4- Foreseen end of the project (year, or year and month) Please provide your contribution (as usual one per group) until February 26th. I'll use it to create the January report. In case you were not able to provide any report yet, you are very welcome to start with it this month. You can refer to the original email here below for further information or just mail me if anything is unclear. Please provide your information until next Tuesday (January 27th). Also, if there are no relevant changes on your side please mail me anyway and explicitly mention that. This will allow me to avoid sending annoying reminders around just because I'm unsure if nothing happened or you are just late with your contribution. Thanks a lot! Francesco Ps.: It is clearly allowed, but not necessary, to add stuff directly to the webpage. The January one is not yet there, but I will create it in the next few days. ------------------------------- Francesco Ciari, PhD Lecturer, Research Associate ETH Zürich, IVT - Institute for Transport Planning and Systems HIL F 33.2, Stefano-Franscini-Platz 5 8093 Zürich, CH ci...@iv...<mailto:ci...@iv...> Tel: +41 44 633 71 65 Dear MATSim users, At the last MATSim Conceptual Meeting, a few weeks ago, we observed that it would be nice for users to have, at any point in time, a complete overview on what is going on in the MATSim community in terms of projects and major developments. |
