This is currently a work in progress. There should be support for
this in matplotlib CVS. Eg you can call
where manager is a backend "FigureManager" instance.
You can access this from pylab with
manager = get_current_fig_manager()
The API for this is still under discussion and subject to change, and
only implemented for GTK* currently, I believe.
