We are using:

(show-paren-mode t)

which works well.

Though, show paren mode doesn't have the nice feature that electric pair mode has regarding automatically adding the closing single quote. I think show paren mode and electric pair mode would complement each other nicely if we could get electric pair mode working.

I was wondering myself. I tend to believe that years ago there was some
paren-mode package, but I cannot find it in my archives.
