#847 ProbeOS limitations?

Alan Corey

trying to install under OpenBSD 5.0 I get:

probe_OS.o(.text+0x14f): In function `NewAppendedString0':
/ warning: strcat() is almost always misused, please use strlcat()

Bad OS value=0, res='NULL'

OS configured as UNKNOWN (0)
assertion "iret" failed: file
"/usr/src/misc/atlas/ATLAS/freebie/..//CONFIG/src/config.c", line 602,
function "ProbeOS"
Abort trap (core dumped)
xconfig exited with 134

Then trying to make the error report:

freebie# pwd
freebie# cd ..
freebie# gmake error_report arch=OpenBSD
gmake: *** No rule to make target `error_report'. Stop.
freebie# make error_report arch=OpenBSD
make: don't know how to make error_report. Stop in

there is no error_.tgz

Sorry for the horrible delay; I was ill at beginning of semester, and am trying to dig back out now.

I assume this is for 3.10.0?

As an aside: wow, yet another compiler that, like gcc, warns you about using a standard C function and tells you to use a non-portable one instead. Awesome.

As for the error, my guess is that it because ATLAS configure has no support for OpenBSD: I don't have access, and nobody has contributed patches to make it work.

In the meantime, maybe you can see what happens if you lie and say it is a FreeBSD system (I realize it may stick in your craw, but it is worth a shot). You can add -O 11 to your configure command to try this. -O 1 makes you pretend to be linux.

Assuming that dies, I'm willing to accept a patch for OpenBSD support :)
