Seems like SF didn'= t=20 subscribe me as I wanted.) You are right. Redo and undo are one of Infinote's main features. There is = a=20 separate repo at svn://svn.0x539.de/infinote/trunk where an implementation= =20 for Infinote is being developed. It looks quite impressive. Sadly, it=20 requires glib and gobject (besides some other libs, see the readme in the=20 trunk). Yours sincerely Stefan Majewsky |

We are not alone in that thinking either with collaborative editing getting a fair amount of attention in the KDE world recently. [2] [3] Looking at MateEdit it is more a breeding ground for ideas rather than a replacement for the Kate, Kile or any other editor. Ultimately this functionality needs to be integrated into already existing projects. I believe the obby library might be a good starting point, but having said that I am not sure where their development is going. I know in order to get a usable editor undo and redo are musts that need attention at the algorithm level which I am currently missing (maybe it is there just not advertised) > I would really like to know what you, the MateEdit developer(s), are > thinking about this topic, and the infrastructure I supposed at [1]. > The proposal looks OK to me on the surface, but then I don't know much about KIO. Also have you seen the two other wished filed for collaborative editing? [4] [5]. As said above a cross platform library would be best and would need investigation. Some investigation had been done by the student working on collaborative editing for KWord but unfortunately he disappeared [6]. I am very keen to get this working for KDE and now that the KDE4 series is starting to stabilise from a development point of view might be a good point to restart efforts. I would suggest to port MateEdit to KDE4 first and then start evaluating options. Andreas > Yours sincerely > Stefan Majewsky > > [1] http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149498 > > P.S. Dear MateEdit developer(s), I am a KDE user with a little C++ knowledge, planning to extending to=20 Qt/Kdelibs once KDE 4 is out. My fellows (also KDE users) and I have to wor= k=20 with a collaborative editing software. We are using Gobby by now because=20 someone recommended that software to us, but I'm looking for an alternative= =20 which integrates into our beloved desktop, i.e. Kate etc. In the last days, I have investigated the scene of collaborative editors an= d=20 found that there are not many specialized programs for this purpose, the=20 selection is mostly limited to Gobby and MateEdit. This category of softwar= e=20 is very underrated, so we have to put our power together. In my opinion, th= e=20 way to go is to design a cross-desktop library with few dependencies with=20 user interfaces for each desktop. MateEdit could integrate with KDE, Gobby= =20 would go to Gnome. I have already had some thoughts about collaborative editing integrated int= o=20 KDE which I summarized at a feature request in the KDE bug system at [1]. I would really like to know what you, the MateEdit developer(s), are thinki= ng=20 about this topic, and the infrastructure I supposed at [1]. Yours sincerely Stefan Majewsky [1] http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3D149498 P.S. I wrote "developer(s)" with the "s" in brackets because it seems like= =20 Andreas Ramm is the only one. If yes, do you speak German? (This would make= =20 the interaction for me much easier.) |

Hi Andreas, Indeed, including the extra header file worked. Mateedit seems simple but effective, and I look forward to future developments. -- Ben Quoting Andreas Ramm <psy...@gm...>: > Hi Ben, > > Try inserting the line > #include <qbuffer.h> > at line 43 in file message.h. Hi Ben, Try inserting the line #include <qbuffer.h> at line 43 in file message.h. That should do the trick. Let me know if any more problems come up. Hi, This looks very interesting. But when I do "make" I get one compiler error: message.h:127: error: 'QBuffer' has not been declared This seems to be part of qt, and I would have thought I had all the necessary qt and qt-dev components, but I guess not. I am trying to test mateedit with a Knoppix 4.01 DVD and the installed packages can be found here: ftp://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/knoppix/DVD/packages-dvd.txt Please tell me what I need to add or do in order to compile mateedit. Thanks, Ben |
