Benetech (www.benetech.org) is a California nonprofit organization. We have used in-house engineering staff to develop the initial version of the Martus client software using Java (J2SE v1.4.1_01). An executable Win32 version of this software is freely available for download at www.martus.org. After having released version 1.0 in December of 2002, we continue to improve the Martus software, but our funding is tight. We are now interested in incorporating new volunteers into the development process, particularly in the areas listed below. Please contact us at devhelp@martus.org to learn more.
- Writing installation programs and testing Martus software on Linux/Unix.
- Writing installation programs and testing Martus software on Mac OS 10.2 with Java v 1.4.1 (Java 1.4.1 is currently in beta at Apple).
- Creating a bootable Linux CD containing Martus client software, that can be used in conjunction with a user’s account information on a floppy disk to securely run the program at an Internet caf, avoiding the use of an insecure local OS.
- Translating the user interface and manuals into other languages.
- Contributing to ongoing security reviews of the Martus system.
- If you would like to contribute to the process of adding new features to the core Martus software, please contact us to learn more. We will discuss with you our coding style guidelines, our user-centered design focus, our heightened attention to security issues, and our copyright assignment policy.
