Hi everybody on the Mars-Sim project, I wanted to let you know about a very exciting project that The Mars Society is working on... The Mars Society is building a new open-source Virtual Reality platform — we call it “MarsVR” — that can be used for serious research towards the goal of sending humans to Mars. We aim to establish the capability of using Virtual Reality to assist with the initial human exploration of landing sites. Phase I of the Mars VR Program will focus on designing training simulations for use at the Mars Desert Research Station, providing direct assistance in the training of MDRS crew members. We are going to use Unity platform to develop MarsVR and we have support from their development team. We will also open-source the platform including the Unity project, the terrain assets, and the 3-D models of the hab & facilities at the MDRS. This will be so that the general public can freely make use of it to experience the exploration of Mars, as a STEM education tool, and to develop MarsVR as an engineering-grade solution for space science research. Please support our Kickstarter. We have 14 days left and are at 76% of our overall goal. Please tell your friends & colleagues about this project and support us on social media. http://bit.ly/MarsVR1 http://marsvr.io Thanks, James Burk | IT Director | The Mars Society jb...@ma... | +1 (206) 601-7143 |
