In all previous versions of Marathon, as well as AlephOne NIBs, the
preference dialog for difficulty settings and color provided popup menus
to select a value. In SDL, however, there are no popup menus, just a
single value listed. It's not intuitive that if you click on the value it will
change, nor is there any clue as to what it will change to, or how many
and what values there are in total to choose from. Likewise, if you pass a
value you want, you have to cycle through all the values again.
Marathon users are accustomed to the intuitive and easy-to-use nature of
pop-up menus. All AlephOne users would benefit if this method of
selecting values were to be incorporated into the SDL version of
AlephOne.
Also, in implementing the pop-up menus, please bring back the color
names. Custom scenarios replace the plain vanilla color names with
themed names. Retaining the theme names that scenario designers have
used in the past is important to scenario identity. More importantly, total
conversions, such as EMR, actually change the colors of the player sprites,
so the color swatches currently used by SDL are not accurate. Using the
color names established by the scenario designer is more indicative of the
actual color used in gameplay.

FWIW, it is possible to fix the color swatches using <interface> MML.
