With Aleph One 1.0b1, OpenGL (Shader) rendering, and the Mesa GL renderer under X11, landscape textures may be displayed incorrectly.
* GL_RENDERER: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ironlake Mobile, GL_VERSION: 2.1 Mesa 7.10.1 (Ubuntu Natty prerelease) looks OK.
* GL_RENDERER: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ironlake Mobile GEM 20100330 DEVELOPMENT, GL_VERSION: 2.1 Mesa 7.9-devel (Ubuntu Maverick, same hardware) smears landscapes, as if only one column of pixels was being used
* GL_RENDERER: Mesa DRI R200 (RV250 C66) 20090101 x86/MMX/SSE2 TCL DRI2, GL_VERSION: 1.3 Mesa 7.7.1 (Ubuntu Lucid, different hardware) tiles some portion of the texture and doesn\'t make the texture look like it is an infinite distance away.

    Mesa 7.9, smeared landscape texture

If updating Mesa fixes rendering, I am inclined to think this is a bug with Mesa 7.9

In the case of the R200, in the release notes for 1.0 beta 1, we now list Radeon 9500 (R300) as minimum requirements for the OpenGL (Shader) renderer.

Does 1.0b2 fix some of these issues, now that NPOT texture support is disabled by default?

No, the Shader rendering of landscape textures in 1.0b2 on the Ubuntu Maverick (Mesa 7.9-devel) computer looks just the same as in 1.0b1.

It's not just X11/Mesa! I get the same smeared textures on the same computer running under Windows 7, with Aleph One 1.0b1 and 1.0b2. Aleph One 20100424 under WIndows 7 doesn't smear the textures.

The computer is an HP EliteBook 8440p: core i5 M520 processor, Intel HD on-board graphics, installed driver version 8.15.10.2302.

(Remarkably, on this computer Aleph One playing Marathon 2 using the Shader gets a higher frame rate with Ubuntu Maverick than with Windows 7. I wonder why...)
