We need a kind of convertor from current codepage to utf8.
It should ignore the database current charset (as Mantis was creating =
the
database with default encoding),
and use user-specified charset instead.

[Mantisbt-lang] utf8

Hi all,
 
I've just built all the utf8 langfiles and started Mantis multilingual
testing.
 
1st screenshot is here:
http://www.chumakov.ru/images/Mantis_ML.gif

You can see Chinese, Turkish, French, Russian and Korean in one database
there.
 
I can commit all the langfiles + modified config_defaults_inc at any
appropriate time.
 
What else do we need to make Mantis Utf8 ?

Alex,

Could you please explain just what people mean when they talk about a "UTF-8 
database".

For example, the database that was set up for our applications is "MySQL 
3.23.58" running on a virtual server provided by GoDaddy. Not being the 
database nor the server owner, I have no idea if either the database or the 
server are UTF-8 compliant, and if they are not, what would be needed to 
make them so?

Perhaps we need a UTF-8 wiki page to continue this discussion there. How 
difficult would it be to have one set up?

I thought that now I'm using ISO-8859-2 code page
and for migration from ISO to UTF-8 I have to
convert every string in my database.
So, when only langfiles and meta section will be
changed to UTF-8, whole content (issue subjects,
descriptions and comments) witch cames from database
will look like corrupted in browser. There is no problem
for standard ASCII characters like "a b c d e" and others,
but for regional characters like "=B1 =EA =E6 =F3 =B3 =F1 =B6 =BC =BF".
The problem is not on MySQL side. Problem is that old
content was "pasted" to database when page was using
ISO code page.

Sorry, for my English, but I think that now the
problem with migration to UTF8 from ISO-8859-2,
KOI8-R, ISO-2022-JP is clear.

notepat is possibly good in Russia, but in Europe not, Notepad dont 
use ISO charset, standart Notepad uses only Windows codepage ant this 
is different from ISO.
