This came up on the list last week some time, so I had a quick look
tonight... it would be possible to have a Java applet that mimicked a
button, that when pressed would GET/POST system info to a Mantis URL. Due to
the security restrictions on applets by default, there's not a huge amount
of info available (I've stripped out a few that aren't immediately
os.name = "Windows 2000"
os.arch = "x86"
os.version = "5.0"
available processors = 1
total memory = 2031616
max memory = 99942400
free memory = 1266896
and the memory ones aren't all that useful either as they're only for the
virtual machine running the applet. But if the O/S ones are handy enough to
package into an applet, then its fairly easy... you could do more with a
signed applet or ActiveX control but they carry they're own (deployment)
