I noticed while troubleshooting an issue, that: - if g_allow_signup = ON and g_enable_email_notification = OFF, - then the verification e-mail is not sent despite the comment in config_defaults_inc.php (line 343) that says "Note that disabling email notifications has no effect on emails generated as part of the user signup process.". Since that behavior is a consequence of a specific fix [1] from 2004 by thraxisp, and the comment was added much later on [2] (dhx, 2009) but without any related change to the code, I am not sure of what is the intended behavior. From my point of view, the sign-up e-mail should be sent regardless of the value of g_enable_email_notification (in other words, dhx described the desired functionality, and I need to revert/undo [1]), with g_enable_email_notification = OFF, only the message sent to inform admins of the new account created should not be sent. What do you think ? Damien [1] http://www.mantisbt.org/bugs/view.php?id=3344 [2] http://www.mantisbt.org/bugs/view.php?id=4772 |

I agree, sign-up emails should be sent regardless of the config setting. That email is not a notification, it's a mandatory part of the sign-up process. From re-reading the bug, the change was made to address the case where there is no email set up on the server (as is the case in a number of shared host environments). Sending the email causes issues whether it be mail backing up or crashes in php. enable_email_notification = off with allow_signup = on used to be flagged as an error in the installer. ...
