Started! It was a bit fiddly setting up Eclipse/PHP/Debug but got it in the end. I have almost completed my the merging and will start on the testing. Once I have tested what I have. I will check-in and start working on the extra features requested in the blog/bugnote discussions. I want to basically take the comments from: http://www.futureware.biz/blog/index.php?p=106&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1#more106 http://bugs.mantisbt.org/view.php?id=4428 As a starter for 10, I quite liked the idea of different charging rates per person per project and formalising who can see what. Before this goes into CVS, I think i'll wake up - isn't this something that should be done as custom fields linked to bug notes? Doing it this way is more generic, and would save 4 bytes/row in the bugnote table for people that aren't interested in the functionality - i'm assuming that the bugnote table becomes one of the larger ones in the mantis db Paul > > Started! I'll try and take a look at the mantis branch I had done when trying to do this over the weekend - iirc, I'd modified custom_fields_api based on that bug you noted + others, and the bug view etc pages to support custom fields for bugs, bugnotes, users - and iirc, it was mainly a complete working patch - albeit, I've not touched it for about 4 months now. Hi, About this same subject, has anyone here taken a look at this thread? http://forums.mantisbt.org/viewtopic.php?t=3D589 We have on production a usable and working time tracking module,=20 complete with reports. We're now currently working on displaying gantt=20 graphs from it, apart from other useful reports. What we would need now is a way to check the "economic" performance of a=20 mantis project. We think that would be possible by having a couple of=20 custom fields at project level (not bug level). One for the initial=20 hours estimate and another one the current estimate (or at least, the=20 project completed estimate percent). This way we could check this=20 against the reported hours by all the participants and get a measure of=20 how good we are performing. Another way would be to have this fields at "version" level, which is=20 the approach we are currently working on. This way we could handle also=20 project enhancements without having to create subprojects or other=20 projects for handling them. Currently we are basing this on carefully parsing strings on the version=20 description, but clearly we would like to see mantis heading firmly in=20 that direction. How does this fit with the timetaken mod? I personally think linking=20 time reporting to bug notes an error, and a thing prone to add noise to=20 a bug/task. Thanks in advance. Firstly (although not really important) why are you submitting emails anonymously? You say: "This way we could check this against the reported hours by all the participants and get a measure of how good we are performing." - Where are you keeping the reported hours of all participants? Whether it is noise is a matter of opinion! I think that the measure of time spent on a particular aspect of a project is quite relevent. There does not seem to be anyway of adding this level of detailed granularity to a project. Looking at it from another point of view, if you add all the bugnote times together you should get the project estimation time - but if you only have the anwser then how can you make sure you are allocating the correct resources. Also using your reasoning bugnote text is also noise of a bug! Maybe it's time for a redesign so that text, time, <insert resource here> can be assigned to a bug! Well, if you take a look at the forum URL, you'll see that there's a=20 separate space (and corresponding data structures) to keep reported time=20 (and a one line description field). > Whether it is noise is a matter of opinion! Of course is a matter of opinion. What I meant is that having them=20 separately allows for separating also the views depending on the kind of=20 user. I allow my clients to see the bugnotes (and create them) but i do=20 not want them to see the reported time and description. I think this=20 should be taken care in the timetaken mod. > Also using your reasoning bugnote text is also noise of a bug! Just one table with a bug and user foreign keys together=20 with some attributes (hour/time, description, etc.) is needed. Kind regards, --=20 Sincerely, Marc Gibert Ginest=E0 e-mail: ma...@co...
