As part of the ABC Trial run of Manifest Maker, we tried to run four 6 Gigabyte files through the process. I have not had the experience of running multigigabyte files through the process (yet).

During the process, the main window 'greyed out' and task manager showed manifestmaker.exe as being 'not responding'. This was concerning to the users.

Michael Hoy, Director Sydney Office, was in attendance at the trial - he used to work in our ICT section and is a fluent python under Windows programmer. He said that there are a couple of ways of 'fixing' this sort of behaviour in Windows.

One was to add a 'sleep' command with no arguments in the loop where the processing is occurring. Another way was to send the checksum calculation off to a new thread - the old thread keeps the appearance that something is happening. I think he did mention one other way - we were walking to Central Station at the time and it was noisy and towards the end of a long day. If I had some knowledge of python (one day, he dreams), what he was saying would have made more sense to me.

If this does not make much sense, can I suggest that Michael is contacted directly to confirm his comments.
